I've been gathering parts for the hemi challenger and am ready to order pistons, rods and a cam. I have an iron world block, 4.500 bore, obtained a 4.150 crank (Thank you FY1TA), have a set of hooker super comp headers, cast iron ported heads, and a factory but ported dual quad intake. The car will be stock body and weight wise. It will have caltracs with Eddy adjustable shocks in the rear. Calvert front 90/10 shocks. I still have to get a dana and a 727 for it so the gearing is still up in the air. My goal is to have a 528 that will run on pump gas (93 octane) but still run a 11.00 all day long. What pistons (CR?), cam (manual brakes), and rods(I or H) should I get?
Any other suggestions are appreciated.

You'll get a lot of different opinions but you can screw up and it still should be able to run 11.00s all day long.
My opinion is that the stock intake will limit power but it will still make all you need.
I would have the "Vanke" modification done to your stock intake if you're going to use it with a 528, do you have carbs to go with this manifold? I would go good quaility H-beam rods and FORGED pistons in the 10-1 range. Don't get sucked into Hyperautectics for a high buck Hemi.
Your cam can be something mild in the .600 lift range and I would go the extra $$$ for a roller due to all the lifter failures with flat tappet cams with the new oil formulations.
All you are going to need for gears in that Dana are 3.54.

In my 528 I've got venolia 10:1 pistons with an actual compression ratio slightly less (9.8:1). It runs fine on 93 with iron MP dual plug heads. Rods are H-beam eagles. I splurged on a custom hydraulic roller cam (245/256 @ 50 and .565" lift). ***Hyd. rollers are DIFFICULT to install.*** Great street bruiser even with my limited single 4bbl MP intake and 850CFM carb. The intake and carb really began to choke things off about 5000rpm on the dyno.

I run a hemi 4 speed with a 3.54 dana.

As has been said by others for the rods etc. I'm using CP pistons in mine (10:1). As for the cam, after what I've been through I don't think I'd run a hydraulic anything anymore. They are not what they used to be. At least with a mechanical you know where you stand. Roller anything will require alot of checking. There are push rod guides in the block and head, although there may not be a guide in the world block. Because the roller lifters are taller and push rods are angled. The push rods may hit the head or block or both. Some guys remove the block guide so they only have to worry about the head.

I decided to go stage V on mine and I'm getting the entire package from Tim Banning. That way if I run into trouble he can at least help me out as he knows the set up.

Chris,
I think we have twin engines separated at birth.
My 528 Barton Hemi came in at 704hp and I think it has the same exact solid cam. I have the hardened lifters. I have the Stage V 2x4 intake and heads, Edelbrock carbs, Moroso pan... I went for the RBRE rocker system also. There are a couple of dyno links in my sig.

Chris,
Did you use a hemi k-frame or a BB? Which engine mounts?
Thnx!

I am sorry it took me so long to respond. I don’t check for messages very often and for some reason the board is not e-mailing me when people post.

Excellent dyno pull!! Is there more engine running footage to see?

To answer your question I used Schumacher adapter mounts and reused my original K member. They don’t let the engine move even a little bit. With the 1/8” clearance to my passenger’s side shock tower, that is a good thing. The extra vibration in the car is noticeable but not objectionable. I like it. The frame is also connected with the type of connectors that cut into the rear floor and weld in the entire length. I think all that stiffness dissipates a lot of vibration. I used similar mounts on my Road Runner whose frame is not connected and shakes the [Edited by Moparts - Family Friendly Site - Keep it clean] out of the car.
