The info I got on the gaskets said the 1009 is .039 and the 1039 is .051 , So .012 difference = 1/2 point?
The bore is also bigger on the 1039's. 1009, 4.410 bore, .039 thick 1039, 4.590 bore, .051 thick 17059, 4.500 bore, .039 thick 1105, 4.590 bore, .051 thick
I could not use the 1009's on my 451. They also won't work on my Stage 6 heads.

Are you tryng to lower your compression or stop the fire ring from hanging inside the combustion chamber on the head.
I'll be going to 1105's this winter for just that. I'm decking the block to stay where I am comp wise at the same time.

Does Felpro/Victor.McCord make any thinner gaskets? I would like something in the .025-.030 range without going to a Cometic or a Steel Shim.... I'm running Edelbrock heads so while some run the Steel Shim I'd rather not & I've read to many postings of Cometics weeping... I haven't assembled the enging yet & I'm considering taking the block back to the machine shop & have them shave another .010 off the deck...

make sure those 1009's dont overhang your bore. The fire ring blew out on my 30 over 440 becuase they were hanging over. I went to a 17059 marine gasket
had a problem with my 4.375 bore.
