Well my 3 brothers and my sister and I have taken up a collection and purchased the parts to get dad's car fixed up. It is a QQ1 blue with white interior 318 auto and it is his baby. I am doing the work and we are trying to have it ready soon but it ended up needing outer wheelhouses and trunk extensions after I got the quarters off. I have those now and will be fitting the AMD qtrs very soon and will post pics as I go along. Progress may be kinda slow as I work a lot during the week but this is a high priority for me and we are all looking forward to dad cruising his baby looking sweet in the springtime!!Thanks to all who have contributed and helped to get this thing going and it will be well worth the effort.Here are some pictures to date... Oh yeah up until a week ago this was a secret from him and we finally decided to let him in on it so he can enjoy the process,he was really blown away.

We did the same for my dad last fathers day and he didnt know about the car at all till the day we brought it back from the body shop, it is a great feeling, and all the other dads will be jealous

Aftermarket qtrs needed a little "straightening" but weren't too bad...

I have done some more today but forgot to bring the camera home,will put up more tomorrow.some inner wheelhouse patching...

Done. Wasn't that easy?

I will give it all a quik run over with some 180 grit on the D/A and then time for epoxy primer,heavy fill and a quick block sand and then paint.Should only take another year or two at the rate I'm going!
AND I have to figure out what color to paint it!!Any suggestions??

what did you do to strip out the cowl area? I have had a heck of a time getting the paint out from in between all the bars....

You can't go wrong with b5. Looks good for a NY car. I would love to do the same thing with my dad's RR some day.

B5 is always a great color on B-bodies!

we have narrowed it down to a blue similar to the original(UU1),or 1 other color that I am not yet at liberty to divulge. Either one will look good.This is a driver and will be driven far and often so it will be chip guarded and undercoated,not a smooth as glass showcar.But boy what a nice solid body and frame.Car is from Roanoke virginia.2 owner 318 machine.New engine and trans on standby, 416 maybe? time will tell. In the meantime it looks like primer should be starting to flow this weekend.

great work! I'm partial to F5 or F8, but the trouble with B Bodies is so many colors look great on them. I'd say stay close to the original color.

OK- here are some pics from today,finally got some primer on it.now i need to scuff this primer which is dp-90 epoxy primer and put on the heavy fill slicksand primer for blocking.hoping to get it painted in the next month or so.

Well well, it looks like my old Sport Satellite is now a big family project, and it was a big surprise. I did shed a tear the day he dragged it out of my garage in New York . . .Now I thought he might put some cheese in the quarters over a flattened Coors can like he discovered in his 69 Super Bee "BEE QUIK" . . . And I might even have been satisfied with a good "rattle can overhaul" . ..And if I had known what he was up to, I would have cut the cord off his compressor before he whacked off both ENTIRE QUARTER PANELS! It would have scared me to death, but not Chris. . .So now that it resembles a car again, I can breath again . . . .haha, and I even forgive him for all the times I found my wrenches in the lawn with my lawnmower! Some kid, and many thanks to all my kids, and all of Chris's friends and all of our friends here on Moparts . . .Now if I can only keep him from losing my 318 for a 440! ...Hey, gas is expensive ya know!

OK - Got the car taped up last night and in the booth ready for the Slicksand heavy fill primer,thanks to 2 of the painters at the shop who had mercy on me and did it before they went home.I was very glad for the help...

another- got some in the jambs this time too...

the heavy fill primer,called slicksand went on this morning.A gallon gave one really thick gooey coat and guide coat on top for blocking.

let it cook out in the sun for about 2 hours - it was about 97 here today.

Then I drove it back inside and let it cool down and blocked it for about 6 hours.Its still a little wavy and I have a few spots that need attention but its not too bad.Its just an old car anyways , right pops?

I know it may be hard to believe but I really am only posting about 10% of the pics that I have to send to dad.If I don't he threatens to come down here! Tell me to stop if its too many.

One more for today.More sanding tomorrow and some more primer if theres time.The older I get,the longer this crap takes.I only have a couple left to do after this one.Darrells 70 Hemicuda is next!

Looking good! Spray a gallon on.....sand 7/8 of a gallon back off! So what's the "X" taped on the left quarter for?

OK- we have a winner on the color!! Check this out , it is 2009 "Plymouth" Electric Blue Pearl.Close to the original but with some new technology mixed in for effect!! It was a tough choice but I'm glad we can move on now and maybe see some color flying pretty soon. Here it is...Drumroll...

that color is perfect! keep the pics comming! and since you're in a B Body mode....I've got a set of skins that are dying to go one.....

OK- more primer today and this stuff did not want to spray out,it gave me fits.I'm starting to think its a contest to see how many colors I can get this thing before the actual color.If anybody sands this car down again they will see a very colorful combo beneath the paint!

another- wanted to get some primer in the trunk jamb.I will scuff and shoot sealer on the bottom of the trunklid and then paint it.It did not really need much of anything else...

My friend Seamus is one of the painters at work and we were both in the booth spraying today trying to get this thing knocked out.I am very grateful for his help,he masks a car faster than anyone I have ever met.Thanks man!

Well, dad came down to inspect and to lay his hands on the car. Here are some pics oh him getting his hands dirty sanding...

we got it all blocked out again and it is close to paint.Since it is not a show car we are not going to prime and prime and prime this thing.If you guys have done this stuff before you know how much time and money can be involved with many rounds of priming and block sanding...

Today we got the bottom of the trunklid and hood ready to be jammed in and got to see our custom one off color.I bought extra liquid pearl and house of color flake and we went to town. Maybe next weekend we will be shooting the outs ide of the car.

BTW- door striker is out,the door fits much better than it looks in this pic.

we have 2 paintbooths at the shop and so I had the car in one booth and the hood,decklid and other parts in the other.still didn't get them all painted,go figure.

This was a long day and hard work and Seamus came over and mixed paint and helped me in every way while I was spraying the car.This guy is solid gold and couldn't have done it without him .

well after applying the mystery coat,it was time to get shiny.First coat of clear around 8p.m.

Any of you that have painted cars know there is something called the "hero coat". It is the 3rd coat of high solid clear that maybe you need it maybe you don't.But I always get caught up in the moment and I am definitely a more is better kinda guy.If there is clear left in the can,we are gonna do the hero coat...

OK- hero coat on the car and it was very rewarding.now there is more than enough clear for sanding and buffing.Out the door Sunday night at 11pm for the 45 minute drive home.BUT the car looks good and the body appears to be reasonably straight.

last one for now. I started to wetsand and buff tonight,I did a spot on the rear qtr and this paint is gonna really come alive after some color sanding and a buff.Watch for more pics of the re-assembly and some more stuff coming soon!
