Comps, Crane, Harland Sharp ? T&D, Jesel, RAS not really in the budget.

Not looking to break the bank, but don't want something that is gonna need to be replaced every couple years either. I make 150 to 200 passes a season with a bunch of street miles. Cam is gonna be a small solid, but will likely grow in years to come.

What are your experiences with all of the above. I know I won't see any gains simply by going to a roller over non roller, just looking at whats available.

Thanks guys, If you're a WD or dealer in general, you can shoot me a PM with some prices.

Nodular iron setup is the best bet for something that is going to see a lot of street miles. Might be hard to find these days with Crane out of business.

I ran the the stock 273 adjustables with a small solid roller and had good luck. I believe another board member is still using them. I did upgrade to the chrome shafts from Mancini and I changed the adjusters out. But overall investment was less than $150 IIRC.

http://www.iskycams.com/pdfcatalog/2004-05/page36.pdf I ran these on a 11.50 small block for over 20 years. Same set. 6,000 at the stripe. Higher than that, you will want to have them bushed.

I run the comp cams pro magnums on Edelbrock heads with a .591"/.548" lift intake/exhaust. Make sure oiling holes are oriented correctly and your open spring pressure is well below 400. I don't consider them "budget" but they are very nice rocker arms.

I've got the pro-Magnums and like them (BB). For under .6 lift and moderate spring pressures they work great as supplied by Comp. For heavier applications they benefit from bushing (RAS).

Take a look at the PRW rocker arms. They aren't exactly low budget rocker arms but maybe they are what you're looking for. I still think the old nodular iron rocker arms are the best deal for a street driver, especially if the valve lift is less than .550 inches.

Thanks for the replies guys. For the time being the car would be run with a solid FT in the .550 range, but I'd like to be able to run a larger solid in the future or possibly even a roller, so I'd like to buy rockers once if possible. If that means I have to spring for RAS, T&D's or even Jesels then it would be money well spent for peace of mind.

Andy I'll take a look at the PRW rockers.

Thanks again guys.

I have Hughes 1.6s on my small block, five years with the .592 lift hydraulic shifting at 6200-6400 with no issues. They are on my 408 with a .633 lift solid now. A local guy has the Comps on his 408, three adjusters broke on it the last time out, he said it looked like the ball shattered on them.

I'm running comp pro mag's with banana grooved shafts on my 410. It has a small solid roller with .576/.582 lift...springs are about 180 lbs on the seat and 450 open. They seem to work well, but I was told not to go more than 450 lbs with out bushing the rockers (apparently they are plenty strong, but they tend to gall the shafts). These rockers were on my last motor too...I think that makes them about 9 years old. Money well spent in my book.
