What's a sales bank car? (69 Charger R/T 4 spd track pak w/ Y16 code).

The car order originated inside Chrysler for sales stock.

Y16 cars were usually shipped out to a dealership to sell whether they wanted it or not.

Thanks Barry. My bro was curious about the code on his Charger's tag. Its a 4 spd dana track pack, but had 4:10's that looked original.

More like basic economics.

If car companies sat there & waited for new car orders, the assembly line guys would be napping all the time in between cars.

Build the cars, ship them out & target the customer right at the dealership. Put the money down & drive away, instant gratification with no wait.

Makes good business sense. They might've had the "hot rodder" in mind w/ this one. No AC, 4 spd dana, am radio..

this was part of Chrysler's downfall in the late 70's, they kept building cars, and dealer's didn't/couldn't sell them, there were rented lots full in Detroit, of Mopars that were built, but didn't sell.
