Thinking of getting one to see how upgrades may have helped before going to the track. Anyone use one?

We used to have like 3 of the older models, that we got for like $15 each or something crazy. They worked ok, but can only be used on long straight, FLAT roads if you want to get a semi accurate reading, I never was able to get any solid data out of mine.

I'd just go to the track. Safer and easier in the long run.

I have an older one. It's a little optimistic especially with regard to trap speed if you have a lot of wheel spin. I do think it's useful in helping to judge whether or not any changes you make actually improve things. Obviously for this to work you need to use the same stretch of road and have weather and other variables as close to the same as possible.

i played with the first model, loaned to me by a friend. it was fun, and fairly accurate. i've heard the new ones are extremely accurate. i'd be real paranoid about testing a fast car on the street. these are not the good old days, you know? our cars are way faster, and the fuzz have lost any semblance of a sense of humor.

for what is the good life if not doing things thoughtfully?

yeah hard to use on the street but it did match the track times when used on the strip. biggest problem was it would fall off the screen when i released the trans brake. obviously i didn't have enough sticky in my spit.

How are the newer SS meters compared to the old ones? I've got one of the old ones sitting around for years. I also got a cheap deal on it but never really used it at all.

I have one of the new ones and I can say that it is within .05 ET from what the timeslip says. The MPH is a little optamistic however. It usually read about 1.5 mph high. We actually took it to the track and installed it on a few of our cars and the ET was always real close. It actually always read on the slow side of the .05 that it was innaccurate. If your car actually ran a 7.05 1/8 mile time. The G-tech would read 7.09 or 7.10. I like it. I never installed it on my brothers car or my Stock Eliminator car that go wheels up during the launch.

10.53 @ 125mph. 1.37 60 foot. Caltracs and Monoleafs, AFCO shocks.

Heads by INDIO MOTOR MACHINE; IMM.
CP Pistons, PC Carbs.
