Well, the boy did it yesterday at Capitol Raceway with the gang from 422 Motorsports. First win in the Bob Banning Dodge Bounty Hunters car. After a day of frustration; broken positive lead to the coil, then shut off for leaking water on the starting line (block cracked again), got it resealed and taped a big diaper to the pan to catch any drips. Put the short front tires on for the 0.400 tree the 422 guys run, with only one time run made it all the way to the final in front of Bob Banning Jr. (the original sponsor's son) to win it all. $800 cash (we like cash ). We are done for the season, so we will pull the motor, put another block around the internals and have it ready for next year.

Congrats on the win... now you have some money to buy a block
I've got 4 blocks in the garage; the boy gets to keep the money (he earned it). Dad (me) pays the bills for the new motor. Now I just need to dig down in the couch cushions for some change to build a spare motor...

Way to go!! We wondered if they got it in.
We had seriously thought about making the tow off of the mountain and coming down, but it rained all day Friday, all night Friday night, and a lot of the day on Saturday so we didn't. We do love running the 422 series. It's a great series with a great group of guys.
I hope there was a good turnout. We'll see you guys on that circuit a lot next year.

Yeah, it drizzled all morning until about 12 noon. The sky looked promising to the west, so we hung out and glad we did. 422 had a good turnout (Collette just about flipped his Hemi car over backwards he stood it up so high). The 422 guys were great when we broke on the burnout; offering parts to fix it (turned out to be a broken wire). Two nitro funny cars there; Phil Burkhart in the US Male and another (don't remember the name). I don't think they have run nitro cars there since the King of Kings back in the 70's. If you remember Bill Schmidt (blue 68 cuda); he got RU in Class II.

Congratulations. That's a good win and a nice way to end the season...except the motor deal. At least if you're going to have trouble, it's better to have it with the long winter ahead rather than early next season. Sorry to hear we won't see you guys at Atco Saturday. That is usually a good event. Good luck, Tommy
Thanks Tommy, the motor has been on borrowed time since it cracked at the beginning of the year. This crack was new; the sealer we had in the block would stop the leak by the time I was back to the trailer, but the stress from the burnout and going down the track would open it up a little more every time and dump more water. We had to put a gallon of water in it Sunday before we unloaded it from the trailer. Good luck at Atco! Wish we could've made it.

Congratulations! I was there and saw it first hand. Kevin was on his "A" game and he's very tough to beat once he gets going. It was nice to see a Mopar win that class. Those 422 guys have some really nice cars (and fast) and you guys (plus Ron's brother Gary and the guy in the red 65 Hemi Plymouth) represented the Mopars well. Great job!
Haha, I found out about "If you remember Bill Schmidt (blue 68 cuda); he got RU in Class II." When I was paired up with him, I thought, this looks like a street car and I should win this. Welp, I found out real fast how good he is... I lost to him in the 2nd round. He's a nice guy and I was happy to see him make the finals
Thanks Joe. Bill's been racing since the mid 70's, been running that car in basically the same configuration since 1986. I think the motor's been in the car since '92. He's a very good driver.
There were a lot of nice Mopars there- early b's were well represented, as were the 68-70 b's, second gen a bodies (I've always liked the second gen barracudas), and even a few c and e bodies.
Ron- it was great seeing you there, nice 60'!
