Are all a-body 8 3/4 backing plates the same? For instance will a 72 or 73 backing plate be the the same as 69 backing plate?

Thanks

As far as I have seen and know the backing plates look the same. The certainly will function the same. IIRC, in '70 they started using bell hat drums (which are 100% interchangable). But that had nothing to do with the backing plate.

FYI, no such thing as a 73 A-body 8 3/4. 66-72 only.

so then where do the A-body 8-3/4 housings with big bolt pattern come from ? I've seen a couple over the years and have no reason to believe they were modified housings are redrilled axles

Chrysler never made a 5 x 4 1/2" bolt pattern A-body 8 3/4" rearend.

If you saw one it had aftermarket axles or resplined truck/C-body axles (very common now).
