What should the overall total advance timing on a slant 6 be? I am at about 32 total and that just seems a little shy. The distributor has about the right mechanical advance in it at 20 degrees, but if initial timing is at 10 or 12 degrees, well that leaves me with 30-32 total. This isn't close to what you'd run a V-8 at. Is this right? Is there advantage to changing this? If you have some info I would surely appreciate it. Thanks

30-32 is about right. Slants don't usually like a whole lot of total timing. On the street your vacuum advance will make up for it anyway.

I run about 27 total on my race junk, and 18-20 when spraying.

Thanks I appreciate the info. Since I run about 36-38 on my race car I was a little taken aback by the 32. I will leave it as is.
