Finally a HUSKER again
Well my buddy who is a very good Late model dirt car pilot is selling his Masters built, and wanting to buy a slingshot dragster. He said he cant afford 10K in engines every 4 years. I see his point. I think he can get into a decent dragster with a good 450-500 hp small block mopar for 10K and have a good time doing it. He has the engine already, just needs a chassis. He can get a new chassis for 3500ish, and then all he needs is fuel wheels, seat, and trans. I can build the trans, he has a seat spoted for a couple hundred, pluss he can sell his late model engine for 5K, so really if he gets everything sold, he has 15K to spend. Im excited for him cause the dirt thing is a lot of work, but a blast.

Who/What is the best chassis builder for slingshots? Im interested in every angle as Im te one going to be doing a lot of the fab on the thing.

kasey

I went the other way, started 1/4 mile racing and started driving track cars.

My money says he'll be bored with drag racing rather quickly. Don't get me wrong, I love drag racing and continue to do it, but once you've been behind the wheel of something for sometimes HOURS at a time (compared to 9 or 10 seconds) it's hard to get the same amount of satisfaction.

I have only checked into them, never owned one.
I will say that anyone that has raced before should know better than say that a new chassis is 3500 and then all you need is a few other parts.
How about
body and fitting
fuel system
brake system
safety equipment
electrical
shifter, gauges, linkages, upholstery and paint

He has a pretty well outfitted race shop, so the little things that add up wont be a problem. He has litterally a big tool box with fuel fittings and hoses all labeled from -6, -8, and -10. Has a cell, has a lot of the needed pieces. I know there will be a few things, but for the most part should be simple. As for the liscense, he is gonna start out as a hobby, then go into it heavier. Im sure he will still drive his B mod, but this is gonna be a bit cheaper for him.

Oh, and he just located and bought a 354 hemi out of an old chrysler for a couple hundred bucks, and it runs.

I miss my late model shaw, i started 1/4 mile also and running heats and features is alot more fun than say 2 or 3 passes down the strip in one night but we do what we gota do, after the L/M class was discontinued i ran my shaw car on the drag strip, moved some weight around and bolted a 727 and a 340 and used 31x13 dirt tires mounted on 14x15 MRT carbon fiber wheels, car weighed 2500lbs and ran mid 10s in the 1/4 and 6sin the 1/8. it hooked up ok with the 4 bar and the quik change worked good too. Your friend should try it People (drag racers) dont know what to think of it till they see it run.I had 3500in the shaw car and 4-5 grand in the motor and tranny. thats pretty cheap to be going that fast.
