Subject came up a while ago when BondoBob was worried about angle milling his new W8 heads 2 degrees & having the decks too thin.... Well I just sat down & sonic'd every different style of head I had laying around, & here are some misc results to look over.....
The # on left will be the deck thickness on the spark plug side of the chamber, the # on right will be non plug side of chamber.....Anything I makred "new" has never been resurfaced yet....
New 1999 W2: .313"/.330"
New INDY 245 CNC rectangle: .360"/.360"
New 1977 W2: .442"/.440"
Used, unmilled 308 junkyard casting: .270"/.270"
New Blue Core plug W5: .325"/.340"
Used .030" milled Blue Core plug W5: .300"/.320"
Used Coleman/Arrington Nascar W8: .310"/.315"
Heavily flat milled Chapman W8: .210"/.230"
New W9: .320"/.350"
New 1995 W7 raw casting: .415"/.346"
Raw Arrington new casting: .270"/.420"
Used Angle milled Arrington: .190"/.360"
I have multiples sets of most of these heads & all seemed pretty consistent....
Some interesting results, I'll let the #'s speak for themselves. Just something neat to look at that I've never seen anyone post info on.
