I'm hoping some of you guys can start me in the right direction with a change I'd like to make to my car. My car is a 1966 Fairlane with a 427 FE that runs nostalgia super stock. It weighs around 3,300 lbs. and runs in the 9:40's. I currently run Cal-Trac bars along with their split mono springs and 10.5x30 radial Hoosier slicks. It has been a best of 1.30 in the 60' foot braking.

Last week I just about put the car on the rear bumper. It was great for photos but not much of anything else. I've decided to put wheelie bars on the car mainly for the safety aspect. I was hoping you all could give me some recomendations regarding what bar to use and some tips to dial them in. The car is basically set up like a stocker with a bigger tire.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I dont run Caltrac's (I run a 4-link) but I prefer
using longer bars if possible... without the spring
but if you use the shorter bars(65" or shorter) I prefer
the spring ones(the spring down at the wheel)....
this is my preference... I currently have 65" with
the springs and have them set up 4.5" to the centerline
on the axle of the wheel( they were set higher for the
pic in my sig)

Talk to John Calvert. He recommends the bars made by Anthony Jones Racing. Something to do with the way the bars attach so it doesn't unload the spring.

I didn't have much luck with the AJE bars (pictured but not fully welded in yet). They did plant the tire, but the car kept going up, and bent them. Then I built my own, and made them longer, but attached to the rearend like normal. One thing I've learned with the leaf springs after watching video of the car is have them very high in the car. The wheelie bar wheels need to be several inches from the ground. I would make a pass, and ask the guys helping if the wheelie bars hit the ground because it spun so hard? They'd say maybe a little? We'd watch the video, and even with the wheels 4 or 5 inches from the ground they would SLAM into the ground unloading the chassis. I will try them again, but much higher, because the car is on the bumper with weight in the back, or spinning. Not sure if that helps?

I had the same question, so I asked the smartest guy I could find...MIke Roth of MR2 Performance. He recommended A.R.T. 60" spring loaded bars. He also suggested buying the upgraded wheels. Make sure you buy their wheelie car brackets as well, the ones in the kit are not the best.

You don't need band-aid wheelie bars.........You need to control the car........Read this THREAD.......................

They pivot on the chassis
