Hey all you 904 guru's..What kind of parts will I need to build a 904 to stay together behind my car?? We are talking to be able to handle 1000hp,9000rpm shifts,3050 pounds..I looked on TCS web site and they dont have awhole bunch of parts for the 904..I see AandA sells one for 6500 bucks..For that kind of money I would just call Joel on Joy in Michigan and buy a pro-flite from him using Pro-trans parts.. I am thinking about building one for a test session..I have a good valvebody and changing the conveter would not be a problem..I would like to have straight cut gearing, but AandA does not show them???Would like to have a 2.28 first gear..the 2.45 would cause my car to flip over backwards. Dont want to go with a 2-speed..not as fun..would love to have a liberty.. Any 904 guys want to loan me a trans My 727 is For Sale in the race section..if anybody is interested.

Same question about a 904 trans that will live, but for only 350 HP, less than 3000# total, max of 6000 RPM shifts. I may be slow, but I want to do it consistently and without too much breakage.

Last time I talked with Dave he would not sell any of his pro-flite parts..but that was awhile ago..maybe things have changed?

I know Joel built the trans in Chuck @ Best Machine's 65 Coronet and it lived there. His car was right at weight (3350) and he makes/made about 1070 hp.
Joel or dave would be my first two picks. i do know that both are VERY BUSY right now though

I know both are always very busy..I am pretty sure Chucks car is a 727 with a 2.28 straight cut deal...it is not a 904 internal 727..
If I had almost 600 cubic inches like Chuck and most of them boys at Milan.. I wouldn't be worried about a lightweight trans..The one I have would work great..

I know you're right about the 2.28 1st, not sure if it's all light weight or not. The lightweight stuff from Smith lives to a point in SS/AH cars, but they're high maintenance.

Most of the Comp guys run the pro-flite with a GM converter and adapter plate..I would want to use my 7-inch converter for a 727 input shaft. You find some Pro-trans 727 hemi trans..but the guts would have to be changed over to a smallblock case and most of the hemi guys run a 2.28 to 2.34 first gear..that is alittle agressive for my combo..I would need somewhere in the range of a 2.14 to 2.18.. I am just going to have to breakdown and buy a trans from Dave and use my valvebody.. I know this 727 I have been running is just robbing power out of my motor...I bet a pro-flite would be a good 2 tenth quicker..plus..running this 727 with the large internals at 9000rpm is alittle scary
