I changed pistons and they are a couple grams lighter but the rings are heaver due to going from 1.5 mm to 1/16. Anyway I figure that I am under balanced by 11.1 grams. Should I have the crank rebalanced? This is a stroked SB that will see dual duty, street/strip. Should never see more than 6500 rpms.

Almost a 1/2 an ounce. Better call Dram or
somebody in your area. Street motor no big deal.
Racing it to 6500, could be a big deal.

Snap your neck, mega G-force launch, is all I want!

are you sure it's underba;anced and not overbalanced?
what was the weight of the old piston and rings vs. the new ones?

The current bobweight is 1846.7 and the new would be 1857.8, which mean I am under balanced.

Not to steal the post, but what if it were the other way around? going from a heavier piston to a lighter? would i need rebalanced?

that's correct. if it were mine, or a customers, i'd balance it. 11 grams is not a lot but, two things come to mind. it's a lot cheaper to do it now than to have to do it afterward. also, how good was the last balance job. i bet when they spin it this time it shows something other than that 11 grams you think it's off by now.

I have heard of people over balancing by 1-2% on the reciprocating, so 100% rotating, 51-52% recipricating, but haven't heard much about underbalancing. Well, I guess I will just call the Machine shop and have it done.
