I'm looking at a Scat 408 stroker kit, cast crank, flat top pistons, I beam rods, 7/16" cap screws. Are these kit's any good? I was told the bobweight is 1734-1750 is that fairly light or what? Thanks.

We use and sell those alot! Very good stuff. Run the piston to wall clearance an extra .001-.002 more than KB calls for, and keep the top ring gap around .030 and it'll be happy and live a long time.

Sounds like the kit Summit has at $974. The Scat
crank is cast iron, so I wouldn't put a ton of HP
to it. Maybe 500 or so?

Were useing that kit in a buddies 87 Dodge 4X4.
With new RHS 360 X heads, RPM intake, 750 carb,
and mild .500 lift cam. Should make an easy
400+ HP.

Snap your neck, mega G-force launch, is all I want!

I plan on running my 750 holley dbl pump, weiand excellerator single plane intake, 2.02 j-heads, .528 solid cam, MSD dist+6al,headers with 2 1/2" exhaust and flowmaster 40's. I'm hoping for the 450 hp range and plan to get some aluminum heads later on. I need to figure out how to set it up so i can swap heads later and still have pump gas friendly comp and keep a good quench.

if you plan on upgrading later don't get the cast crank. build a good bottom end then you will be ready for aluminum heads and upgrades.

Supposedly the cast kit is good to 700 hp, i'll never exceed 500-550 on pump gas with aluminum heads Can 360 j-heads be milled down to get smaller chambers? all the aluminum heads are 63cc chambers so i'd like to be around 11:1 when i swap heads but be at 10.5 with the J's. Thanks.

if you have performance valves they should not have the big concaved face like the stock ones, that alone will knock down chamber volume i've taken about .040 off my j's with good valves it cc at 59cc

That 0.528 cam doesn't have much overlap (60deg@ advert. IIRC)
Get the dished piston, it works out to around 9.5cr. with an iron head and 10.5 with an al. head.

Ok heres the dished info from the site

Description SB CHRYSLER 360/408
Crankshaft 9-360-4000-6123-2123
Rods 2-ICR6123-2124
Pistons DISH
Comp. Ratio 58cc-10.2 64cc-9.7, 70cc-9.3

Eddy heads are 63cc chambers so that will put me close to 10 comp, I'd like to end up as much as i can with the aluminum heads without any detonation problems on pump gas even if i have to get a new cam as long as it's a solid. I'm open to suggestions this is only my 2nd motor build for this rookie.

KB 745 specs @ 9.3cr. with a 72cc head and 10.2cr with a 62cc head. The last 2 Scat kits I received both used the KB piston. With a light deck cut (under 0.010") once the block is squared you will be right around 10.5 cc with an eddy head and @ 0.044" quench.

I run the Scat Kit 408 in my bracket car.Forged crank,KB744 pistons,forged I beam rods,590 MP cam,Super Victor Intake,750hp carb,TTI headers,Eddy heads 63cc,with a 904 trans,TCS 8",low gear,4.30 gear/30X9 Hoosier @ 3420 w/driver.
Best has been 1.47 60' 10.97 @ 120.
The kit is a very nice piece and with the I beam rods there's no need for notching for clearance.
