I have a question for you guys..... which project should I address next summer? 1978 d150 swb 2wd 440 truck -or- 1977 d150 swb 440 warlock. The 78 is lowered, and will need some attencion to the engine. the 77 is a basket case that will need frame repair and a lot of stuff. Anyhow, any opinions?
that's easy. sunroofsunroofsunroofsunroofsunroofsunroofsunroofsunroofsunroofsunroofsunroof

Yeah, the 78 is a sweptline box truck. it is also loaded to the gills with options including adventurer se package, tach, volt/vac, am/fm/cb, a/c, tilt, cruise, skylight roof package, etc. The 77 is also fairly loaded, but nowhere near this 78. I am still gathering parts a little at a time for the 77 anyhow. Thanks for your input. Quote:
I'm assuming the 78 is a sweptline? Warlocks are cool but more common at shows....The sweptine (?) is more of a sleeper... I'd pick the easy one first while gathering parts for the warlock.
Or you could sell one to finance the resto of the other???

the camshaft sprocket is steel,,,so someone may have changed it at one time,,,,,,when the timing marks are lined up,,the damper mark also lines up tdc,,,,,but the rotor is 180 out

then it should be pointing towards #6 cyl. I would almost bet money that it might have some valve issues. there is something else you could try, try to plug off your brake booster line and see if that helps, I have seen brake boosters cause lean conditions and damage valves before. not to say that this would fix your blow by, but it could be a possible cause. Another thing to do is hook up a vacuum gauge to your engine and see what kind of reading it has, a normal big block with a stock cam should have arround 19 inches of vacuum, and be steady. if you want to hire a mechanic, I could come out for a set of round trip tickets and lodging....lol. now i'm confused,,,,,,,,i thought if everything lined up,,rotor should be at #1,,,but would a burnt valve make the timing chain seem too loose,,,or is that a whole different issue,,,,sorry,,,,my bro-in-law lives here too,,,he's a certified mechanic,,,,he's coming over later today to set me straight,,but your always welcome to come out here

sounds like it,,,,,,,but I've owned the truck around 4 years now and I never had distributor out,,,,,and this truck was running solid the whole time,,,,even 2 weeks ago trying to start it,,,,it turned over once and ran,,,shut it down and it never restarted,,,,,could it have been running 180 out????hmmmmmmmmmm,,,I think we did try to time it with a light and couldnt get it dialed in,,,,so,,,,now I've got the camshaft gear mark at the bottom,,,then i pulled it and turned the crank one turn to #1 tdc,,,then i pulled the dist. up and turned it 180 to #1,,,,now everything is lining up,,,,now if my bro-in-law ever shows up with a gear puller,,,I can put it back together
