So, it was season finale up here at our track, and I finished up on a good note.
Yesterday I manged to get all the way to the second round ( ) before falling to one of our local young guns. At least it was a Mopar. (Dan Coss- 72 Duster. 10.30's with a small block.)
Today it was time to try out the trans brake. I only used it once, as it just blew the tires away even though the track was hooking pretty good. In the end, I got all the way to the fourth round before I got the funny red bulb. (It was just a tiny shade red. Pink, really.)
I have finally used up the tires I bought when I first put this heap together 5 years ago. It wasn't hooking all that great all day today, but was consistent. Unfortunately, on the red light run, it spun like a mad dog as well. Which leads to another discussion.
My new convertor definitely works. Even spinning the tires, I was getting 60's in the 1.59-1.63 range, which was as good as my old dead hooks and even better, actually.
What I can't figure out is what's going on down track. I'm down 3-5 mph, and 3-4 tenths or better. The car pulls hard to the top of the gear, and I even tried changing shift points to see what happened, but pushing it another 2-300 rpm didn't change anything, and short shifting just slowed it down.
I jetted it up and it dropped down 1/2 mph, so it's not lean.
With the old convertor, it would pull 7100 by the 1200 foot mark pretty regular. Now it is going through the lights at 6700-6800. I have the shift light set at 6700, and only one pass had the light on in the traps, and it doesn't even tickle the rev limiter.
Is it possible that the looser convertor actually "locks" earlier and drags the motor down?
I've got all winter to figure this out, but throw some input my way.
Video later.

Just less slippage with it

It's just something I wouldn't have foreseen. I could see running less mph at the same rpm due to more slippage, I just can't get my head wrapped around the car launching harder, and then losing ET, mph, and rpm in the traps.
