That is nuts. I can see why the NHRA would think that a team member MIGHT be able to hide something if they did the teardown.

Still not a reason why they could watch.

I want my fair share

Because you have no choice. Sure, you can refuse, then you are simply disqualified. It may not be right, but you don't have much of a choice if you want to race.

Its my understanding that you have always been allowed to be present during tear down.
I watched them tear down at Indy, and the team was present.
What if tech turns the wrong nob in the car?
What if they go out to run and the car hits the wall?
What if tech accidentally adjusted the shocks, and
the car gets violent and crashes?
THIS IS WRONG!!!!!

that sucks imo, they should be able to watch at a distance.

bet next time they do a teardown like that, I bet the teams will be putting mini cameras around to see what is going on. I'm not sure if I would leave such exspensive equipment around with people who I don't know or if they are properly qualified to do so.

If my team and I could not watch it, even on a closed circuit TV in another room then I would take the DQ and tell the NHRA to shove it. Sorry, but I would not tolerate that kind of BS, not with the kind of investment these teams have. The NHRA is not the end all to racing.

I don't like that teams were not allowed to someone present. That's NHRA BS

If any of the 5 teams doesn't qualify, or experiences a technical issue they will blame NHRA for screwing up the car. NHRA bungles again.

The question is what was NHRA looking for?
It looks like they were comparing a number of top qualifying teams with Krisher (who hasn't been qualifying well)

I'm not sure if many folks are aware, but there are "teardowns" in ProStock all the time. If a team is consistently is on the edge of DNQ and suddenly picks up .05 and makes it well into the field, NHRA will run a displacement, weight and fuel checks at a minimum. I've even seen NHRA ask to see the data recorder files from a team who suddenly steps up.

What they have on the field you are not going to find in an hour anyway.

I can think of at least 2 more that should have been included in that list .

It will be interesting to hear the other side of the story. Not allowing anyone in teardown is unusual, but I have seen guys pull things in teardown that you wouldn't believe.

If 5 cars took 45 minutes you can bet they were not tearing much down. They were looking for something specific. I would guess that not allowing anyone in was to keep teams from telling the rest what they were looking for.

After his tirade at the US Nats WJ probably dropped a dime on someone.

What is your other option besides running NHRA in Pro Stock? Rebuild your whole combination and run in the relative obscurity of the IHRA or ADRL? That ain't gonna happen.

At least 3 other cars and another "team" car.Hopefully the rest of the countdown cars will get the same deal.

They teams as racers should get together and put there foot down..If they all did it together, there is nut much NHRA could do..
They need to get together and form a new sanctioned body knock NHRA off the high horse.

But it would be real hard to get them to all stick together, a few would be running just to make points, but it would be fun to hear the announcer say ' now, we'll just look at the track a while"

Yeah, it's got a smallblock.

If you're in the chase and you and your sponsors have made this far, telling "NHRA to stick it" would be professional suicide. NOT going to happen. NASCAR confiscates cars all the time, without team participation.

BUT 45 minutes to an hour isn't a teardown. I would bet they were looking for something VERY specific.

Any team worth their spot in the countdown will go over the car bumper to bumper after they get it back, just in case.

It wasn't a teardown, it was an inspection. There is a difference. And, it has been done many times before (with and without crew members present).

Based on some of the comments made this morning by several Pro Stock racers (including a couple that were directly involved), the general feeling is that if it helps maintain a level playing field, then they are for it.

Gotta admit that if anyone was trying anythiny funny, this would be a pretty powerful deturrent.

and it is not unprecedented - at least I know that in 1974 at Columbus, NHRA looked at Billy Stepps car, in his truck - and no one was allowed around -- that lasted for about an hour to hour and half --
