Ordered some custom pushrods from Smith Bros. Monday. 10 of each length so 20 total, paid extra for them to get here by Thursday. They show up and I have 8 of one length and 7 of the other. The motor is in the car ready to go but I'm short one pushrod. This is a small block with T&D rockers and a pretty big roller cam. I am looking around to see if any one has a pushrod that will work. But my question is will a .080 wall pushrod work for lets say the weekend? The pushrods I ordered are .112 wall thickness 5/16. So will the thinner wall pushrod fail? Can I get away with it for one race, or should I keep looking for a replacement? Been busting my butt on this thing and I want to hear it run, and race it.

i'd call smith bros. and have them send one for saturday delivery.
how much spring pressure are you running. one inadequate pushrod could cost you an engine.

Obviously I don't have the knowledge Dan does, but man I agree with this. I made a stupid move a few months back because I lost an indy pushrod at the track and instead of loading up, I borrowed one that was the right length. I didn't even think about the wall thickness (just wanted to race) well I lost that pushrod, a pair of lifters, and a lot of my time getting the pan off the car to get the link bar out of it.

I then ordered a whole set of mantons and all has been well since.

I say wait if you can't get one.

Yeah I thought so, I was really thinking the same thing but thought I would get a second opinion. Maybe Reher-Morrison has one? I will call Smith Bros again and see what they can do for me. The guy last night wasn't very helpfull.

Can I use the thin wall pushrod to start the motor and warm it up/check for leaks?

I have had many dealings with Smith bros over the years and been real happy with them.

Were it me i would call them with your cam specs and pressures and ask them if what you have will work..

you've made it almost to the end w/o cutting corners- why start now?

for what is the good life if not doing things thoughtfully?

I ordered the .080 wall push rods for my w5 small block with 245 on the seat & 650 open after being told by the Mr Gasket techie they would work, the intakes failed on start up , went smith bros so far so good 3rd year, I messed up some intake rockers wile doing this, I would not run the .080 rods to adjust my valves at this point
