Hello, not to hijack but since were talking about Andys 470 article I was curious. Would a set of cnc ported eddy heads make much difference in this combo? Would it kill off to much torque with the bigger ports? And would it do much at all over OOTB heads with the exhaust manifolds? THANKS

CNC ported heads will add power even with the exhaust manifolds. The ports are not really much bigger when ported so bottom end torque isn't lowered much if any.

Andy sold me THAT 470 shortblock. I put a 528 back in (Andy had installed a slightly larger mechanical). Then I added some Modern Cylinder Head MAX ported Edelbrock heads, Dual Plane RPM intake, Demon 850DP and TTI 1-7/8" headers. It rocks and can drive it like a daily driver. The headers are a PIA. They rust, burn the plug wires, had to carve up my safety bell housing AND ding them to get em to fit. UGH. I really intend to yank them and install manifolds.

James,

Did you buy a copy of the big block book yet? There are some pictures of your 470 shortblock in there.

ive got the 528 cam in a 3800 lbs 440+6 10 to 1 comp, ported 906 heads, 4 speed 3.73 gears. made close to 400 h.p. and 435 torque to the wheels.

tried 1 run on 1/4 mile and got a 12.35 @ 116 mph and was spinning tires thru 1 st gear.

Not to mention i get 13 to 15 mpg on the highway.

i had the yellow at the time, i have since switched to the lightest springs, power comes on smoothly .

Yellow springs kicked in way too hard around 2600 rpm's.
