I think the directions state to by-pass that puppy and tie those wires together.

As I understand you DO NOT want to run through the ballast......it may run but probably not up to it`s full potential.

The MSD only uses the voltage from the old ballast wire connection to let the box know the ignition is turned. If you check the voltage on both sides of the ballast resistor they should be almost identical (maybe 0.1 volt drop?) because the MSD unit only pulls a very small amount of current on that line. You could remove the Ballast resistor just to eliminate the extra parts and connections, but the MSD unit will be putting out the same amount of power either way.
