Here is where I am at and have been for the last two outing here is my tune.
Pill 100 with high speed by pass. I have been consistent around 6.34 with a 1.36 60 at around 108. I have been here with or without the high-speed bypass? Does the bypass not really come on in the 1/8? The car leaves hard and straight pulling the hoops around a foot. I am running 410s with a 33” tire the car weighs 3050 with driver. Looking to get all out of the motor that I can. Motor is 451 EZ heads MW port. I know ET is in 60’. Is my MPH right for my Combo? The stats tell me I am making 700 hp?

Thx for the info.

There is a good chance you arent building enough pressure by the 1/8 for it to do any good. I think it really comes on on the top end when its a continuous clime of RPM's which keep the pressure coming up.

Have you gotten all the tuning out of the pill/nozzle combo. You gaining the required amount of heat?

Yep
no need for a bypass at that e/t or speed. I didnt need one running 144mph in the 8th

I assume your nozzles are in the 30-35 range then with that large of a pill..correct?

He would need a pretty small nozzle to keep good atomization up with a water hose for a return line.

James Monroe started me out w/ the old 470ci using 37 nozzles and 87 pill. Ran a best of 9.70 which was off 1.5 tenths from best on Gas... Best 1/8 mile on gas was 6.0 w/ 1.32 60 foot and on Alcohol we ran 6.25 but spinning w/ 1.38 60 foot.

Then blew up the motor.

New 540 Alum low deck shortblock with 15 to 1 compression and James sent me some 38 nozzles to start with.

Maybe you could try one size larger nozzles to get the pill into the 80's ????

Good luck Ted!

The alky tune can vary a lot in different combo's, so take other user's tune only as a rough idea. I really like to have more data to make a decision, like back to back test passes with different main return pill sizes, EGT, or wide band oxygen sensor A/F numbers. Your actual pump size and flow/pressure make a difference.

The high speed bypass is adjustable both in pressure (spring preload) and pill in the high speed. I have mine adjusted to start to crack open at 77 psi (with a leak down tester on the bench) and use a 0.050" pill in the high speed. IMO, you likely don't open the high speed bypass much in the 1/8 mile if your rpm is below 7000. On my wide band data log, I see the effect of the high speed starting at the 1/8 mile, but I shift at 6500 and trap at 6900 (1/4 with E85).

Again, every combo's tune is different, but FWIW when I was running alky, I had a Ron's 0-1/2 vane pump, 0.033" nozzle jets, 0.098" main return pill. This gave me an A/F ratio of 12.3 on the gasoline scale (lambda=0.836). Without the high speed bypass it was going richer to 11.2 at the finish line, but with the high speed it stays 12.3 after some fine tuning of the pressure spring. For example with out the high speed, after the high gear shift it would be 12.3, at the 1/8th it would be 11.9, at the 1/4 it would be 11.2 (7200 rpm on alky). 5psi made a difference on the high speed setting.

On E85 on have the high speed adjusted to 80 psi, 0.026" nozzles, and a 0.102" main return pill...

I am not sure on my nozzle size will have to check the paperwork? But I think they are 35s. When we gave Ron our set up we might have been a little high on our HP rating, I think we told them around 750 and the calculators have me between 675-725 depending on which one I use. HOLLYWOOD jump in anytime? LOL

Just pull the hose off one nozzle and remove the nozzle jet. It will be stamped with the size. 35 is very common, but I have seen many with 33-40.

You can get the same fuel flow from different size nozzles by adjusting the main return pill. But they will have other effects due to the pressure difference. ie a high pressure small nozzle and a lower pressure larger nozzle at the same fuel flow to the engine.

Like Jim stated, alky tune can vary a lot in different combo's. With that said, I run simular HP and ET #'s as you and I've been using a 0 pump and 33 nozzels with a 96 return pill. Just tried running 1/4 mile for the 1st time and this thing puked all over itself. Way too rich. Water temp cooled down 5 degrees at the end of the run turning 7200 RPM in the lights. I purchased the Mech Bypass (m/b) and had very little luck with it. I installed as high as a 92 return pill in the m/b and finally hit 1100 degree exhaust temp. I'm off to the chassis dyno to try and figure out the m/b curcuit. after reading Jim's post, it sounds like a pressure adjustment is necessary. In the mean time, I've turned the m/b around (recommended by others with mech fuel injection)and it runs great in the 1/8th never exceeding 6500 RPM. It seems the return pill in barrel valve is for 1/8 mile and the m/b spring pressure and pill is for 1/4 mile.

My Dakota running 113 mph in the 8th mile at 3300 lbs liked a 37 nozzle and a 94 bypass pill.

In case you don't have it, the instructions for the high-speed (mechanical) bypass are on Ron's site:
