Yes it will ... up to the point of the mech advance
but the mech advance usually has some pretty stiff springs
EDIT
if it has both a mech and a vac advance... if just
a vac advance NO it wont.... the vac pulls the whole
plate to advance

the reason i ask ,this is on a race only car,496 rb 12-1 compr.and with the timing locked out its tough on the starter even with the crank and switch method.so i should be able to remove the vac, adv. off the dist. and put some lighter springs on it and it should work.or do i have to leave the adv. on the dist to hold the plate?

I did this to my ealier dist in my race engines(340s)
and just used the mech advance.. had to re curve the
advance slots for the weights.. worked great(still
run that dist in my 395 stroker... back up engine).
Took the vac off of it

did you have to make the slots longer or shorter?

why don't you just pick up an MSD? very easy to tune.

I had to weld them up some... I added more initial
timing and limited the advance to 16*
