Ring a few places and see what they have in stock, and what needs to be ordered in and a lead time. Dana stuff seems to be a little tricky to get here in Melbourne, but anyone who specilises in Ford F Truck differentials should carry abit of it. AL...

Once again, the big boys don't run 9" rearends, they run 9.5" and larger.
There is virtually NO weight difference between a NEW S-60, and a comparable NEW 9" with fab housing.
I know, but why?

Al, noone has much dana on the shelf.a qld ford f guy does have the best selection.to get a good 9" is around 4 weeks minimum, noone seems to carry axles definately no mopar ends.i can air freight a strange dana in for about the same or 2-300 more looks like a dana will be it.will try a 4.11 8 3/4 centre in the mean time at The Nationals next week.this also gives me a chance to try this ratio as i only have a 3.89 at the moment.i do run a 29.5" street tyre,28" et street radial strip,so i don't think the ratio change will hurt on the street or top end.Traps at 6000/6100 @118+ now thanks for all thoughts Tex

It gets quite annoying at time when people don't stock Mopar stuff. I think with the current Ecconmonic climate, alot of companies are ordering parts as required. I know Q Pac in QLD were machining their own axles in house, I don't remember the turn around. It's been a while since I have had to buy alot of this stuff, and I imported it all myself anyway. Some of it, EG - The gears, I would have been better off buying locally. (The freight was ridiculous) AL....

aftermarket 9" all the way.
As do I. As for the parasitic power loss the aftermarket addressed this long ago and there are 9.5's available(Dewco)that are far more efficient than the Dana. And Cass was right about using the 9.5 and larger for ultimate performance. Any pro stock cars run the Dana? Any comp cars? For the street the Danas are great. For the track the benefits of the Ford type rears are numerous.

ok , whats the power limit on a dana? why doesn't SS/AH still run them? why don't pro stockers run them if they are faster?
Because there is alot better gear selection for a 9".
There is a whole lot more to it than this. A WHOLE LOT.
