Well, now its up to me to find a rebuild/repair/overhaul kit for my 727. Ive been searching and have found all sorts of different types with different components in each.

I want to make sure I have a kit that contains at the very least everything necessary to go through the tranny effectively.

What I DONT want to do is buy and supply a kit and have whoever is building the tranny tell me they need"this" or "that" and that the kit I provided didnt have all the necessary components.

I know some kits can be purchased just to repair some symptoms, but I believe in buying a kit that covers the old saying "Its better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it."

That being said, can anyone tell me if a Master rebuild kit would suffice to do a transmission rebuild?

Another question I have is about the terminology on these kits:

Overhaul Kit

Repair Kit

Rebuild Kit

These all cant be the same kind of kits as I have seen one company sell a kit with each term listed on it.One has more components than the other and vice versa. Can anyone educate me on this stuff?

Oh one more thing. The tranny im going to have rebuilt doesnt currently have reverse. When reverse is selected the car sometimes creeps and gravity takes over(say going into my driveway) and I hear a clicking noise. Will the kit I purchase generally have what it takes to remedy this non reverse issue or are we talking about extra(hard) parts that arent supplied in any kit.

If you still have 3rd then the no Rev is likely a rear band problem.

If it was me I would call Jon @ CRT

He can set you up with evrything you need.

With Bill. If you have 3rd then the rear band has trouble. Could be anything in there broken; piston, strut, band, snap ring or spring retainer. None of these parts come in a rebuild kit. You won't know what broke till you are in there.

I've always used Transtar kits. The Raybestos clutches in them hold up really well. I've beat the snot out of a couple of 727's that had a 440 in front of them, pulled them apart for inspection later and everything looked brandy new!

Here's where I get my kits:
