rebuilt my Holley today because I was having problems with gas going past the primary needle and seat and flooding the engine (440) Well the problem still exists. I turn my pump on (blue pump)and it will be fine for minutes, then all of a sudden, gas will start boiling over. I'll start the car and it will run great for minutes, all of a sudden theres the gas again. I replaced the needle and seats and gaskets. I have my fuel pressuere at 7lbs. any ideas???

If the float was bad wouldn't it start flooding right away?

7 psi might be too much for it and/or it might be deadheading & creeping higher than that and the gauge might be slightly off & it's above 7 & what the float arm leverage can handle. dont know if they are still around but "the carb shop" in Ontario Calif used to market a float w a longer arm that allowed you to run a hi psi elec pump w no reg.

my bet is bent floats then the needdle deflects and won't seat. the ones with tab the tab bends the copper they bend at the float.

With Robert above. If you are using an Electric Pump without a fuel-return-line, the pressure may be creeping up and overpowering the needle-seat.

I had to upgrade to a Return-line and By-Pass regulator on my Charger, when I added an electric pump for that very reason.

Could also be that you need "better-quality" or "different type" (like titanium or steel needle) needle-seats.

The "Bent" float situation could be a possibility too.

Around two weeks ago, on my Holley-carb'd CJ-5 Jeep, I had a similar flooding problem. Replaced the needle/seat, and it was still flooding.

Perplexed, I eventually discovered a disintegrated partial O-ring, in the needle/seat port, that intermittently blocked the needle/seat in the open position. Fished it out, and problem solved.

Still, my best guess is the Dead-Head/Fuel-Pressure creep issue.

BTW: I live right next to Ontario, California where that Carb Shop Robert mentioned is located. Not sure if they are still in business or not. My guess is Yes, but would need to look them up on the internet to verify.

Agree w/float problem, or fuel regulator? I had a bad one with my blue pump that allowed psi creep. Adjusted it down, still creeped. Do you have a pressure gauge connected to fuel system to check it while problem exists? With a regulator, I don't need a return line w/my 750 @ 7.5psi.
