motor im putting together is a 340 .040 4"crank,pump gas roughly 500hp,ive always used cloyes in the past, but was looking at progear timing chain set, what is the better set-up a 3 keyway or a 7 keyway,i see the keyways are in the cam gear on the progear, cam is a herbert solid roller 108* lobe seperation, i will be installing it at 104* do the multi keyways help for timing advancing or retarding or will i still have to use offset keys also thanks mike

When I use to use a chain I used Cloyes set up but
if you want to get the advance dead on you will most
likely still need the offset keys.... now days I've
been using a KB gear drive

The Pro-Gear is a nice piece but, key-ways in cam gear can be confusing.
They are indexed in camshaft degrees as opposed to crankshaft degrees.

i.e. If you need to advance cam 2º you only move it 1º on the cam gear.
I've used the off-set keys to dial them in, even when using multi-keyed gears.

I am using a billet JP Performance race 9 way set and it seems to be a good piece. Pro Gear is good to though from what I hear!

Cloyes are not what they used to be. They use a cheap chain now and do not last.

I have a Pro Gear on my hemi now that I got from DRAM, very nice piece and is supposed to be a quality chain. CHIP

Don't know if it was a fluke or what but last winter I put a new JP performance on my 412. I had to replace it earlier this month. With 120 passes on it my timing moved 6 degrees. When I checked it at the balancer I could move it 12 degrees before taking up slack in the chain.

Hmmmmmm..........

New T&D rockers, new timing set..........

I'll get out the Comp roller lobe library.........you look for some 4.56 gears.
