The fan clutch in my 72 Fury is Easy to spin, regardless of whether the engine is cold or warmed up,It always spins the same.

What does this indicate and what ill effects may I see if I continue to run it in this manner? Will this condition have an effect on the cooling efficiency? The car runs hot all the time, could this be a part of the problem?

If it freewheels around more than a turn or so by hand then it's junk.

I don't know why you would worry about it since in your sig line you say you are parting it out and scrapping it

No im parting out a 72 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY.

The vehicle im asking about with the Fan Clutch is a 72 FURY CUSTOM SUBURBAN WAGON.

Both C body Wagons, one(The Chrysler) just happens to be a parts donor as the engine compartment caught on fire and the previous owners pulled the 440/727.

Mine has always done quite similar.
It's never been "easy" to spin, like free wheeling.
It's on a 7 blade fan and it's kinda tight but like SPWC said, mine runs the same way all the time, it's never made any noticeable difference in sound like "locking up" or spinning faster once a certain condition is met.

Is there a "PROPER" way to test these?
I did some googling but came up with some sketchy tests...

Quote:
"...One thing to look for is a "runny nose" on the coupling. If there is signs that oil has leaked out of the front centre then it is probably stuffed..."

"...Drive until engine is at normal opertaing temp. Stop the engine. Hold onto the fan while someone starts the car, if you can stop the fan from turning the coupling is stuffed. If you are missing some fingers it is probably ok. ..."

Ummm... Hold onto the fan while someone starts the car, if you are missing some fingers it is probably ok. Ya, thx anywayz I'll pass on that test

I just want to make sure the clutch or spring isn't bad in turn contributing to my initial vapor lock issue.

If it's easy to spin like already said it's junk. If you have a 7 blade fan, make sure you replace it with a HD unit. Standard one will not spin the fan fast enough. The standard will work ok with the 5 blade fan.
