Yes this is going to be rwd conversion, and will be back halfed and tubbed. need to get a front suspension sorted out first.

is this a tube frame deal? My car has a FE from Alston, they make it for both round tube and square tube. It's an A-arm setup with a pinto style rack.

Thank you, that would be sweet,We know that there has been conversion's done, but don't know were to start, or the most economical way to do it.

When I built mine in 2002 I use an A arm pinto style ft suspension . This style suspension really makes it easy to work on Plugs ,starter, headers etc. The headers had to be made, but worth in the end. See if i can find some pics for you.

Thinks Jim and Paul... I haven't got the motor out yet to look things over, but its going to be a interesting build. Here is what I'm starting with.I'll wait for some pictures and then I would like to ask you guys some questions.
Thank Walt

Id like to see pics, so ill try to keep it alive!
I been looking at my Avenger, It would be a plus to keep the stock Strut front end. It is plenty wide for a tall deck, and weight diff should be much more than a factory I4/transaxle, over a all aluminum 557 inch mill Setting it back as far as possiable, then as someone else mentioned (FastMop) it would be more like a back half, with added trans tunnel...... Here is a few pics of my buddy's Conquest (he is also a memebr here) car which should be typical front strut suspension on any tube chassis car

ok...just wanted to let you know I finally got the motor out.now my question is...what would be a good set up so I can leave the strut towers in the stock location. I was thinking a strut and spindle set up to go in the stock location. I found a website called bears performance...can anyone tell me if they have good stuff. Thanks

I went the full tube frame way. I want it to be as light as I can get it. I ordered the strange front strut kit and had the S&W 4-link stuff. The rest is just moly pipe. I still have to mount the rack but trying to finish up the major pipe work before it gets to cold and I have to leave the door closed. (welding fumes).
here's where I started, then the front end you were asking about.

struts

Walt, How bought making an Alterkation front end fit, buy your back half kit, and have a chassis shop tie it all together with a certified cage? It may be kinda pricey but may save alot of work and frustration. But I've never done any of this so I'm clueless.

Walt, we put toghether a daytona years ago with a kit that bolted in, we used dodge carravan struts and brakes. im thinking it was a mopar kit.
not sure if one would work for that car.
i can get a little more info from the guy if you want

I have less then the price of a tubular K-frame in my strut kit and rack. Under 2 grand, so to me it was a no brainer, there lighter not really hard to install, double adjustable, and more clearance, plus they come with breaks.
Here is my Jig, it runs the length of the car and it is where everything is measured to, chassi centerline

You're right, Bob. MP had a V-8 conversion kit for the Daytona/Laser at one time. I don't know if you could still find one or not.

If you're keeping the strut towers, etc. you may want to contact someone who's running one in NHRA SS/GT, I'm sure they have it all scienced out perfectly.

thanks fastmop for the pictures...yours is the one I seen on here a few months ago. I see you're making some progress... looks good... if I was going to make a all out race car then I would do the same thing you're doing. I have some ideas but I see that 105630 (red avenger )has the stock strut towers in his car and kind of waiting to see some pictures to see how he done his. the set up that I'm looking at right now is kind of like the one in this picture .. see attachment... but without the frame. thanks guys for all your help. keep the ideas and pictures coming.

I'm will be getting you some pictures real soon ,have been building a new house and work is wide open, but the engine will be pulled soon to be some updating on combination and will be able to get you some pretty detailed pictures then. The pics I had before are lost and I'm sure you will like the new ones soon ,but the car does still have the factory strut tower, the front tube off the cage passes thur the tower and tries into the front clip and the strange strut attaches to the bar up top and uses a viper control arm on the bottom ,which attaches to the bottom part of the bottom rail rails which try in also up front below the top bars but you will be able to see and tell so keep watch in a week or so and I'll make sure to pm you also, may also have the car up for sell soon rolling chassis but it going to be priced in the 30's STILL CHEAPER than you can built these days.SORRY FOR THE DELAY..

SORRY Jimmy... wasn't trying to rush you ...know what you mean about having enough time in the day...but I was doing some research and kinda figured what you explained was the setup that you had.I seen that you had them bar going through the strut tower so I figured that was kind of the setup you had. thanks again and good luck with your new house

wj440 - you want to replace a strut front end with a strut front end?

What am I missing about the stock stuff?

we're turnin it into a big block (hopefully), back halved, street/strip car. The biggest problem we're having is how to change the front suspension and still use the stock shock tower locations if possible.....just lookin for pictures and ideas from people that know of or have done this kind of thing before so we don't cut out or get rid of anything and regret it later.

no, wanting to put an aftermarket strut set-up in the place of a stock strut set-up and have somewhere to mount the lower portion of the strut and engine, a big portion of the existing K frame(if that's what you would call it) will have to be cut out to clear the transmission, trying to stuff a V8 in it and make it look as stock as possible,,,looking toward's street/strip.

Ok. Not familiar with the chassis (despite owing a '96 Sebring 10 years ago), but what's wrong with the stock setup?

I have an idea of what yall are trying to do and want to run something to think about by you. Say you get a strut setup off a mustang, Quality adjustable parts not stock. Use the stock upper mounts and just build your lower frame rails off the hoop like I did. you would need kickers coming through the stock upper sheetmetal tying into the lower framerails but still have the lower open for header and motor clearance. That seems like a still streatable setup.

Walt, that pic you posted looks like the S&W race front end. I just got a new catalog yesterday and the A-arm package with Pinto rack looks real nice and similar to Avenger572's setup.

Thanks Paul for the pictures.I might consider going that direction also.have a question? on your firewall underneath your master cylinder I noticed that it is smooth there. did you redo any of that. Thanks

Thanks Charlie for the heads up on the new s&w catalog ...because that is who I usually do business with and did not receive mine yet.

I removed all of the stock firewall up the bottom of the wiper cowal. It was much easier to make the firewall and transmission tunnel at the same time. This is my opinion only..

ps..I have a photo album of when I built the car, but have to find it. When I do, I'll post some more pictures.

Nice cars guys.

I remember reading about the MP kit during the early 1990's for SBM conversion.

I believe Herb McCandles's son used this setup in his Lebaron??

Mine was a 4-banger too, it broke the timeing belt and the valves hit the pistons
I think they make tough looking hot rods

Ok guys ,stayed home today to tear the old car down.Got some pictures coming tonight .will post them tonight.I took the drivers side strut out of car to get better pictures with the top piece that is made to bolt the strut into the strut tower. Also took the frame rail pictures and how it is run in the car.Keep up with it tonight ,I have been to busy with other cars to work on my own ,but decided to take a day for me and try to get some things done at the house.

ok guys here are the pictures, let me know if you have any questions.all these parts were made by Ed Quay .I'm going to talk to fab shop tomorrow and see if he can make these pieces .but hope this helps you.if you aren't running a series the easiest thing to do is do a arm setup from one of the chassis shops that sell them,My car has to have a stock firewall and run the type suspenion it came from the factory with.I have two things weighing right now do I sell her rolling and build a new car the way it needs to be or cut this one and put the 25-2 chassis in it.I love the car ,but hate to tear apart now ,but something got to give.

Why not use a motor cradle for stick motor mounts, alter the k-frame and and use the stock or strange front GT strut kit for suspension??

thanks Jimmy for the pictures.... but you didn't have to tear the whole car apart. I have a question on this picture here where the round tubing is connected to the square tube. is the square tuging welded between the floor pans or under the floor pans.I also like the way they ran the tubing for the steering.I want to thank you for all the pictures on here. it gives me some ideas on which way to go. I just want you guys to know that I really appreciate the help and the pictures. When and whenever I get started I will be posting everything here. So if you guys want to talk about AVENGERS posted it here. Walt

I have been doing this with the daytonas and have been thinking about trying the avenger also.

Usually just a bunch of dad lookin at the car and thnkin in his head....then me askin 'what....what....dad, what are you thinking?'

'How'd you learn how to do that?' he says 'i taught myself'....well how the hell is that supposed to help me? haha

Lots of fun though, wouldn't trade it for anything.
