Hi!

I am currently installing subframe connectors on my 71 cuda.

My wheel wells are rusty and so is my trunk floor....my frame rails are fine though.

While I was at it....I was thinking that it would be cool to have some extra space under there to stuff BIG tires if I wanted to.

I was wondering, if I use one of Dr. Diffs bolt on spring relocation kits with offset shackles....how big of a tire could i fit under the stock wheel wells? From what I have seen, Dr. Diffs kit will position the leafspring just in line with the stock inner wheel well wall at its narrower point.

Now, if I went ahead and mini tubbed the car by stretching the inner wheel well as far as the stock subframe will let me go... How much more tire coukld I be able to fit? Also, when you do this: can you will be able to mount the rear seat back in place as original? I want to keep the car looking bone "stock".

Also, when you relocate the springs to the subframe on an E Body, how do you mount the rear spring shackle? On an A body its a piece of cake because the rear frame is parallel to the leafsroing and all you do it hand the shackle on the frame, but on an E Body the frame is not parallel to the leafspring,,,,how do you address this on an E Body?

Thanks!!!

Domingo

I just installed my new drag wheels and tires yesterday.
Stock 70 Challenger, stock wheelwells, and I have no leafs (RMS Street-Lynx). The lower link is right where the front third of the rear leaf would be, but it's only 1.5" wide.

I have Mickey Thompson 3055 (28.0 x 10.5 tires), on 15x10 rims with 6" backspacing. I have 1.5" of clearance from tire to lower link, and about .75" from tire to quarter.

My road tires are Dunlop SP Sport Maxx 275/35R19 on 19x9.5 wheels (I bought that setup before installing the Street-Lynx, I could easily fit 295 tires now.

You may want to tub just the 2 inches between the wheelwell and the framerail, if you want more tire than this.

You're not going to get a whole lotta more room by minitubbing. Maybe 1" at the most?

If you want massive tires, gonna have to back-half it.

Otherwise, go w/a Dr. Diff kit and re-locate the spring perches 1" narrower on each side.

I think the widest tire you can get is a 295.

On my '73 Barracuda I am modifing the outer wheel house so that my tires will stop rubbing. If you examine the outer wheel house it does not follow the quarter panel up, it goes up and in at a much shallower angle. My tires have always rubbed on a big bump so I couldn't lower the ride height at the back of the car. I have cut out the offending area and I will replace it with something that looks like a section of a wheel tub.

My Challenger is minitubed with coilovers holding it up and I fit a M/T 31*13 on a 10" wheel with 6 7/8" backspacing.

My 70 Cuda had 285/40-17 on 9.5" wheels with the spring relocation kit in stock wheel wells with lots of clearance.

I was mocking everything up and checking for quarter panel interior clearance and rear seat fitment and I was able to tell it wouldnt mount nicely if I did the mini tub. I want the car's interior to look nice and original so I steered away from mini tubbing it.

295 is plenty of meat anyway. I'll but one of those Dr. Diff Kits.

Thanks!
