I have tested two different 440 motors on two different DTS engine dynos, both motors made 8 hp more at peak power RPM in both tests. This was done with a single water pump belt that was tight driving a new stock aluminum replacemnt Japanese mechanical 6 vane water pump using stock 1968 or 1969 OEM single groove 440 pulleys. I remove the belt on back to back test on both and the net HP gain was 8 hp at 6000 RPM,both motors made peak power at 5800 and 5900 RPM Both of these motors where pump gas making right at 500 HP so the gain was right at 1.3%

Mopar Enthuiest mag did a track test on a 360 Cuda and it picked up a solid tenth. Went from about 11.65 to 11.54 I believe. It actually made me think about trying an electric pump but I never did. Ron
Im skeptical on that one... the car could have hooked a little better, the air could have changed , etc...
my car did almost a Tenth swing last saturday without touching it.... DA / humidity / 60' , etc.... i doubt a mech water pump not running will gain a tenth .
On the DYNO it might look good though .......

We once run a 650 hp BB with both electric and overdriven pulley pump, and the differencies were huge. Partially propably because of differencies in the intake manifold/head heat, but anyway. over 25 hp max.

383 dyno final results from fast68plymouth
This and the test below seem very accurate for dyno engines without alternator. If you run an alternator, the added load of the electric pump will make the alternator work harder and offset at least part of the gain.

My car would drop almost a tenth and gain 1 MPH just by taking off the clutch fan. Still had the stock belt driven water pump.
Later on I added an electric water pump drive, it dropped another tenth and gained another MPH.
I have tried this MANY times at the track, same day, back to back tests. Going from a heavy stock clutch fan and belt drive water pump to an electric water pump drive was worth almost 2 tenths on my car. This was when I was running mid 10s. CHIP

My brother and i both saw right at a tenth a few years back by going to an electric pump over the factory setup. We made the swaps at nearly the same time. In my case i knew exactly what the car should run, and know the gain i saw was right at a tenth. It had nothing to do with track conditions, etc.

if you are a subscriber to Mopar Enthusiast we ran the test mentioned by 383man we took dan's cuda to the track with a belt driven water pump and left with an electric water pump, doing the whole conversion at the track. if you are a subscriber, you can look at the archives for it. all you need to do is enter your email address to digitally subscribe. www.moparenthusiast.com

If you want to be able to drive it on the street with an electric pump, then get one of the good pumps...not just an electric drive unit like the kit from Moroso. The kits like Moroso's are great for track only, but they will not keep it cool on the street. I use a Meziere drop in pump, fits in the stock water pump housing, on my hemi. The CSR pumps are good also. CHIP
