Anyone ever test to see how fast you can go with a regular old hood latch? Seems like it would hold, and you have teh hook as a backup. I would like to keep mine hinged rather tahn pin it.

On a steel hood I wouldn't sweat using just the hood latch. I saw a mustang once have the stock latch rip from a fiberglass hood and that would make me want to pin a glass hood regarldess of how it was made.

The worst part was is that he had his fuel pressure gauge mounted to the hood, so it flew open, broke off the hinges, and then beat the roof in on the car until the guage ripped off. Only downside to braided fuel line I know of lol.

On my glass hood, I used the stock hinge and safety catch, but I added pins to the front corners to keep it from lifting there. No problem yet at 138 mph.

This will be a steel hood. I too would play it safe and pin it if I were running glass.

I tried a gutted steel hood on my Scamp with 4 pins on each corner, but a center pin in the front really would have helped because it caught air and lifted at about 500'.

A hinged hood will be better for me since it is usually just me and if by chance I needed to get under the hood in a hurry, popping it open the conventional way is a whole lot faster than messing with pins. And since I will be running a bonded cowl scoop, me thinks the chances of the wind trying to snatch the hood up will be less of a concern than with a forward facing scoop.

Thanks for the info.
