Forget the battery............install an alternator and avoid all bs affiliated w/racing w/out one.
last time i tryed running the alternater i had way to many volts and fried two rpm tacks.whats the best way to hook it up.do i need the alternator regulator or can i run without.
You can run a later model alternator with an internal regulator, I just put a Powermaster on mine.
What part# on the powermaster.I'm doing a search man them things are high dollar.
I run a 85 amp Denso alt with a external regulator (I use the high out put Mopar regulator) and I use just a single battery.... I cant remember how many years its been since I put a charger on it. Trans brake, water pump, fan, 7al, 2 fuel pumps and a tail light plus I'm putting a small fan in the car to circulate some air inside
I like to do away with the volt regulater less to worry about.been looking at the mancini true one wire one $159.

Yea, I took my belt off years ago and thought I got .04 hun. on a pass,But I tried it at Chrysler Classic after running 10.02, wanted a 9 sec pass, went 10.03, no difference. Would depend on how much juice your battery needed at the time

Powermaster 74191, it was $146.95 at Summit. It came with a dyno sheet saying it put out 60+ amps at idle and I think 78+ amps at cruising rpm.
A friend mentioned to me that these alternators can take higher rpms then the types you get in a regular parts store

Well I can tell you if the battery doesnt have more than 11.5+ volts it wont matter cause the starter wont work LOL
It's one off the gear reducion starters. It's at 12 volts with the key on.drops to 10 1/2 to 11 with the engine running and all the comp's on.

A couple of thoughts.. The MSD boxes need voltage to run. Regarding the alternator, a trick we have run on some of our cars is to switch off the alternator's Field lead..
EZ to install a simple toggle switch in series for the Field wire lead, turn it OFF when rippin down the strip. Turn it ON to keep the battery charged. Many people don't realize how much drag the alternator pulls while charging..
Just my $0.015...
I use to do that... made 0 difference

16 vdc is a good choice if you need to add weight aft, My 16 volt system is heavy @ 120 lbs - 2 -8 volt in series, We pull 25 to 30 amps out while racing and only charge the night before we race, rarely I see less than 14.5 volts @ the end of the day, engine starts like its on steroids, 8 volt golf cart batteries are cheep 75 to 150 bucks depending on size and make, they make light weight 16 volt single batteries for more bucks if weight is a problem, most 12dc wiring systems will be a little over kill for 16 volts, as volts go up amps go down in the conductor, a little freebee benefit, The lack of a charging system was another plus , less junk up front, no long large gauge wiring and dint have to clean mud from alt winding anymore, it may not be for everyone but if you already have 2 - 12vdcs in the trunk and have to charge in between rounds going up to 2 -8volts is fast and easy, just check any electronics specs for max voltage if you use a lot of stuff , oh and 12dc light bulbs glow brighter @ night and don't last as long
