If so lets see some pictures. We are getting ready to try and move mine up front. along with some more changes to move some weight around. It is a tight squeeze so looking for any ideas. So lets see or hear what you think.

Yeah, it's a tight squeeze if you have a dry sump, as the tank for that, the rad and a cell make it real tight up front. I'm about to deal with this myself soon as well.

Al,
Hit up my lil bro for some pics, find him on PM (AFXcoronet) he has front mount cell, in a stock front end 65 coronet with vacuum pump, mechanical fuel pump etc....its tight.

I know he built one from cardboard and had someone weld one up from alum.

In the Daytona we ran the 3 gallon alum fuel cell from jegs/summit etc.

Well here is what I have to work with. We are moving the trans cooler. Not a ton of room up there with the radiator and all but hope to find the space. Of course i need to find room for the pump/filter as well.

The problem I see is that it is required to be inside the framerails. YOu have like 0 room inside the framerails. You will most likely have to weld some tubing around the front of the radiator off of the frame and mount it out there.

We plan to build an extension or cage for the cell similar to the Firebird above. Man I wish I had that kind of room to work with. Biggest issue for us is just fitting anything in there and maintaining the stock grille which is still in the car..Might be time for a little hacking to a perfect original grille

I would say you could probably fit an upright one like this http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/15305/10002/-1 in there.

I used the 1.5 gallon tank from Ron's fuel injection with a Holley float bowl mounted to the side of it. Ran an electric pump from the tank in the back to keep the front tank filled. Used the small tank to supply the cam driven pump. Worked great.

Ron's Surge Tank

#7029WF

Used on door slammers, this tank is placed high in front of the engine to gravity feed the injector pump. The tank is fed by an electric fuel pump from the fuel cell in the rear of the vehicle. This tank holds 1.5 gallons, has 1 vent, 3 returns and 1 float bowl to keep it full. 13” x 8 1/2” x 5 1/2”

you've got plenty of room but you will lose some air to the radiator.

Can you move the radiator to one side and get some room to build the cage and support on the other?

Al looking at your pic, and with the more square type nose of the barracuda. I would suggest moving the radiator a little forward, then mounting the cell between the radiator and the block. As you know it has to be within the frame rails so more tubing may need to be added there.

the other option as already proven is the surge tank from Rons, its small and can be mounted in various places up front, just has to be above the pump to keep it primed.

I have known ONE, I say one, car that had rear mounted and rons set up, it worked great for him. But have heard too many other horror stories.

One option appears to be pull the tranny cooler off, build a tank about four to five inches thick and the same rectangular dimensions of your radiator, and mount it about three inches forward of the existing radiator. Mount the trans cooler on the side of the cage you build to house the fuel cell. Looks to me like with the trans cooler off to the side, you would have enough forward space to do that. Looks like you would have to put the fan out front to keep heat off the fuel tank.
Dimensions of 22 x 20 x 4 give a tank capacity of 7+gallons? You could build it to what ever size you need to alter ballast. Just run more or less fuel.

Can't see why you'd need any more than three gallons, looks like you have room for a small tank

Is the main reason for this to move weight up front? If not I would relocate the trans cooler to the back, that's what I did to get more cooling in the roadster

Appreciate the thoughs gfuy..Moving the radiator foward wont really help any, it can only move a coupl eof inches and it is a bit busy up there already. As it is now trying to read the timing marks takes a contortionist

I am moving the tranny cooler as I stated earlier, that clears up about 4" between the radiator. I have a shroud and electric fan on the motor and it does not really get to hot unless being hot lapped. But it cools very quickly.

I am putting in a 4 gallon cell for a few reasons. My heap uses nearly a gallon a pass, between getting to the lanes, running and getting back. Plus the dimensions between the 3 and 4 are not going to make the 3 any better of a fit really.

Yes the main reason for doing all this is to get weight up front. The 4 gallon cell will help there too. I am moving the trans cooler but not sure yet where, probably to the back as we are going to move the accumulator to the front as well to offset any change there.

Did some measuring tonight and it looks like it will work in front of the radiator. The only drawback I can see is as Wayne pointed out is a loss of air flow to the radiator. But the grill is already blocked off so I dont see a huge change there but you never know.

My next big issue will be where to put the pump/filter. I am changing pumps as well so if someone is looking for a smoking deal on a pair of BG400 pumps with filters and spares I will make you a smoking deal as I am switching to PE/Magnafuel's. The challenge is going to be trying to keep them gravity fed as they seem to be much happier that way.

Best question might be why the heck am I changing a car that obviously works pretty well and is extremely consistent..The answer is they can always be made better, or I am a lunatic You decide
