Does this pan hold an extra quart or is it standard. I am going to be running a High volume oil pump on a 440 and wondering if I need a deeper pan that holds an extra quart or will this suffice? I saw a Mancini generic deeper pan I am sure someone makes for them. It appeared to hold more than stock. It was $99 at Mopar nats.

I had one of those 402 pans on my first 383 A-body a long time ago (3.23 gears, 4-speed) and every time I would take off from a stop even moderately hard the oil light would flash on for a second, a telltale sign of sucking air.

I immediately put on a Moroso 7 qt pan... much cheaper than new crank, rods and bearings... even an extra qt of oil probably would not have been enough "insurance" against running dry...

The 402 is a 5 quart standard pan. You may want to consider a 6 quart hemi pan.

a hi vol pump will not (imnho) suck the pan dry. baffle it around the perimeter of the sump & you will be fine. May I ask why you are using a hi vol pump?

402 is a 4qt pan, the filter holds 1qt = 5qt system
