Just thinking about maybe later this year, or next year building a new motor. I've got the Indy block already just sitting here ready to go, its got 4.50 bores and 4.50 stroke, looking at heads now and was wondering if I'd be better off with the indys I have or going with the B-1s.. and if I go with the B-1s which one to use.. I see there is like three or four.. Thanks...

Just depends how much money you have and how much power you want to make. The B1 PSO heads from Best Machine should be good for around 1000 hp on your 4.5x4.5 short block provided you have the compression and camshaft to match.

I don't have a bunch of money to throw at it. I just want a nice 9 flat to 8.90 car. I know thats easier said than done but thats what I'm looking at doing.

There was a smoking deal on the classifieds for B1's. The B1 Original's hands down over anything Indy. They make more power period. And starting from scratch the B1MC for a larger motor like yours (572) wouldn't cost "that" much more.
Your probably looking at a easy 75-100+ HP with the B1 Original's fully ported over the 440-1's fully ported. The B1MC another 75-100hp more.
The pistons are all head specific for the B1 stuff so keep that in mind.
I wished I would have went B1 when I built my 440-1 Indy motor, pretty much same deal as you have, Indy maxx block 4.5 stroke, jesel rockers bla, bla, bla.

My little B1MC motor in the Barracuda makes 1050+ hp, nothing real exotic about it. The cam and compression are not maxed out by any means either. My Valaint went 9.0's at 3470lbs with a set of orignal B1's on a 400 block. If you cannot make 800+hp from a set of ported B1's you are doing something wrong! They do come wit a little higher cost but IMO the return is worth it.

i love how yesterday you were blowing a gasket over taking a blue pump off your car and spending money never ends then you went mental and bought a whole new fuel system cell to regulator and today your building a B1. i love it, we are all exactly the same

I would recogmend the B1-MC's for what you want. Like it was said before the B1 heads will out flow any indy's out there

1 of the Koffels crew Aarom Dahm put togather a 528 with B1-MC ported,B1 intake ,1000 dominator and a healthy upper .700 lift cam,12.+CR and is running 9.5's in a 3600lb RR.it dyno'd at 950HP befor esome cam improvements. just some ideas on some1's build.

I'ld love to see what that much motor would do in my car.

The only way I would recommend the 440-1 is if you had the right pistons already, and could get a smokin deal on a set of ported castings with all the good valve train parts. These heads can be made to go 900+ hp, but it takes some effort. The B1 stuff will do that with mild porting and a good build. You have the cubes, so you need at least 390 cfm headflow, maybe more to get some serious power. That is a stretch for the 440-1, but can be done with a 2.3/1.78 valve combo. The B1s start off in that range from what I have read, plus have a bigger CSA to compliment the cubes.

I know, but I'm just thinking a head. Now that I just signed a contract for securiity for the county for a little while. So its starting to get better and the fuel system is just about done. So now I need something else to do.

IIRC Modern has a program that puts them in the 420'ish range.
In all actuality this will be a few month wait also.

I bought the B1 original package from Koffels two years ago during their annual end of the year sell(you can to ), I had them max out the porting also 450 CFM at .700 lift It did take a little longer to get them shipped to me, (middle of April instead of the middle of January) but so what I wasn't in a hurry then and I'm still not in a hurry. Good parts last forever BTW, are you wanting to run low nines or high eights on motor only or are you adding a power adder ? A 572 C.I. single Dominator B1 motor built halfway near correctly will knock the needle over 1000HP really quick on any conservative engine dyno I know of one 525 C.I. B1 single Dominator motor that made real close to 1100 HP 10 to 14 years ago And it is still going strong to this day

Get ahold of Tom Hemphill. He did a set that were on our 588. He's a nice guy to deal with, and knows his stuff. He has a cnc program on B1 stuff too...
