Looking for some advice before I start pulling things apart. I have a 70 Hemi Roadrunner all pretty much stock. I bought the car and left it sitting in storage for 2-3 years. The last couple of times I have had the car out, it will start pushing transmission fluid out of the bellhousing area. I do not believe it is coming out of the front pump seal. It also seems the warmer it is outside, the sooner this starts to happen. The car has the stock 3 core radiator, looks to be in good condition, stock converter and the stock transmission cooler.
Am I fighting a overheating problem in the trans, and if so should I be looking for a fluid flow problem or internal transmission troubles. The transmission shifts firm and the fluid is clean and red.
What kind of tempature should I see if I take a reading at the trans pan, 200-250?

Thanks!
Dan

Assume you checked to make sure it is not over filled? 250 is in the ball park on the temp.

the trans temp should be close to engine temps.
250 is on the high side and cheap fluid can foam up causing it to leak out the vent.
you may not want an aftermarket cooler on that car but i would recommend it,even if it isn't the cause of the leak a cooler trans will live longer and perform better.

I believe I have the correct dip stick. It now shows low and it takes awhile before the trans engages to move the car. The previous owner told me he didn't have any problems, and I believe him as he is a good friend. I don't want to start tearing into things if I don't need to.

Thanks!
Dan

I also have this problem and I do not have cheap fluid in the trans or overfilling. It seems like air is gettin in the pump and pushing the fluid up the tube. I made a plug for the tube but someday I need to pull the trans and fix the problem. I wonder if its a venting issue ?

Is yours pushing fluid out the fill tube or out the vent tube?. My problem seems to be out the vent tube.

Thanks
Dan.

May be a stupid question but you are checking the fluid while idling in neutral, right?
