Hello,
I have a 68 charger with a 440 stroked to 500". I have a clutch type sure grip in a 741 and I also have a non sure grip in a 742 case with 3:23 gears. I want to take the non sure grip 3:23 gears and case from the 742 and mate them up to the sure grip unit from the 741. My thinking is that I will end up with a 742 sure grip with 3:23 gears. Can anyone tell me if that will work, and what gotccha's I might run into?

That will work but before you do any disassembly, make sure you accurately measure the existing gear lash on the gear set you intend to use, and then be sure you set up the final lash exactly to match your measurement. Don't try setting the lash to what the factory calls for on a new set of gears cause it will probably be too tight for a used set of gears and may make noise. DAMHIK...

Remember that the ring gear bolts have left hand threads.
