PM me if you or a friend have one for sale. I finally have some cash in hand and can't seem to find a decent used one anywhere. I'm having troubles justifying buying a brand new one when I only hit the track a few times a year. I'd like to avoid trailers with a wood deck and I'd like to have brakes on both axles. 18-20 foot would also be nice.
Thanks

Good Luck.

Trailers, here anyhow, hold their value like you wouldn't believe. Some sellers even think they appreaciate in value .

Seriously, i can buy a new one, nothing fancy, but with the dropped beaver tail, for $2500. I have been looking for a used one for a year now and when thay do come up, they're always more than a new one .

From what I have seen in used open trailers, the sellers either want a lot of money (IMO) or they are real projects needing hundreds of dollars of work. It is hard to find a good one at a reasonable price. Don't rush it or you will over pay. A few hundred more for a new one might be worth it.

Pay special attention to tires (size, load rating, condition). It could save you hundreds if you can look at the brakes before buying, to see if it needs new hardware ($$$).

2 summers ago I bought a tilt bed open trailer, full deck.

Last summer I sold the car and put it up for sale for more than I paid for it. I had people tripping over themselves. I had someone will full cash here the next day.

I bought it an hour away, all they had to do was a little homework. I was actually bummed I didnt ask more, with the way people were acting.

I bought this tilt trailer from a neighbor a couple years ago. He had it sitting in his front yard for months. Then I needed a open trailer and called him to see if he still had it, he did. He told me he bought it new for like $3600. and was asking 2700. I offered 2300 bucks and he called me the next day and said he would take it.

I didn't know anything about open trailers but I got lucky that it was a tilt. I really like the fact that I don't have deal with ramps. It's very quick and easy to unload.

It's made by some shop called J&B trailers I beleive somewhere in Ohio.

Just got back from a 5000 mile trip and the trailer or tires never let me down.

Thanks, a little overkill for the trailer huh... lol
Another pic of the trailer, go tilt. I don't see any draw backs over ramps, are there? The doors on everything I hauled so far has cleared the trailer fenders, they do come off with hand knobs on threaded fastners.

I have one you can borrow for this year. As you know, good ones are hard to come by for a decent price.

John Dively, who owns Econotrailer, has built his business out of nothing. He's about thirty miles from me, and years ago John managed the now defunct Peterson Dragway that was in Altoona.

His trailers are pretty hard to beat. I downsized myself, and went over and bought one of his fifteen footers....I think it was less than $1700, out the door, tax and all.

They are built to pass Pennsylvania state inspection, and have brakes on all four wheels.

I love it....it is light, my 98 Ram pickup 318 handles it real good. Handles good, stops good, easy to manuever around.

Thanks Don, that's very nice of you but I'm finally ready to buy one.

I was leaning towards a full deck trailer so we can haul 4 wheelers a few times a year but after borrowing Butch's Econo-trailer a couple times this year I'm really leaning that way now as that dropped rear frame rail makes it a piece of cake to load a low slung car without even jacking up the front of the trailer. I've got a bad elbow so raising and lowering the trailer 3 or 4 times in one day really takes the fun out of it for me. Plus their website says the new ones have 6 foot tongues and 5 foot beavertails, that's awesome at that price!!

Steve1118, you planning any road trips to Summit Racing in the near future? I'd give you gas and delivery money to bring me a new Econotrailer.

Are the 14" wheels on these trailers anything to worry about? A while back there was a thread about enclosed trailers and everyone swore by 16".

I would much rather have 15" over 14" on a open

Bought my used EC with my racecar, both used, in '94; that trailer's been bulletproof. Added some aluminum sheet between the raps, mounted a pickup-type toolbox on the tongue, and put a wince inside it. I'd like longer ramps, if I had to pick a flaw. I run 14" wheels and the Michelin VW Transporter tires that are rated for heavier loads.

As far as 15" being better then 14" tires. They might ride better as they would be taller and you wouldnt feel the smaller pot holes and such. I have well over 100,000 miles on my open trailer with 14" tires. Not yet have I had any problems, no blow outs or bearing failures. I do keep my stuff well maintained. My trailer is also an Econo. It has held up very well..Bob, if your only using this for your car and your things it will hold up very well for you, and do everything you need it to do...My ....Phill

I have used mine twice so far and really like it.I looked most everywhere I could think of and people want a lot of money for used up trailers,so I finally bit the bullet but I am really glad I did.Quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten.
