I was watching highlights on Pinks the other night and saw a driver spin around and slam into the driver in the other lane..I wondered about what happens when your car gets wrecked on the track by the OTHER Driver ???? is there any liability on his part ???i hate to bring up a bad subject but it happens and wondered what action can or is taken ???

did not know about these insurance companies. not that i could afford any more with all the stuff i have to insure already.

Well I knew you could get insurance for your car to protect you from home and being trailered around and even to the track but not on the track itself..i just didnt know if anyone had ever heard of some kind of action being taken towards the wrongful driver ??? Im having a hardtime thinking that my 40K is going to be lost cause of no fault of my own..I mean most of us spend years building our cars and dont have any big sponsors to foot the bill..

"Key on" insurance used to be available, it may still be. The best defense is to go to tracks that have a decent tech, pay attention to who's driving and take care of the track. That's not always possible. Not going down the track beside of some POS death trap or an idiot who doesn't know what he's doing and wouldn't lift 'till it was on it's top is the best bet. Still, stuff happens.

I lost a run to a local who can't drive. He ran the organization he was racing in. Well his employee actually ran it but you get the picture. This track had wide centerline. Like 6' feet. Not only did he get into the centerline but he crossed into my lane. I was inches away from the fence and had already lifted trying to protect my car.

The guy running things acted like they saw nothing. They even pretended to go ask the track officials. There were two video tapes of the incident. It was dark and hard to see through the viewfinder. The guy running things said no-one saw anything and there was no TV available. As I was packing up the track owner who was in a wheelchair came over and asked how everything went for me that night. I told him what had happened and he said no-one had even asked and they had two different TV's on premise.

What do you do. Protect your car it's only one race. Then, don't go back and race with the lieing, theiving, #%$%^$^%^$^ that put "you have a freind in Jesus" on his back window. Wanted to go peel it off his car but figured he would someday read his decal, make freinds, and stop being what he is.

there are a couple insurance companies that cover everything. Every now and then on DRR this gets brought up, and actually a few people there sell the insurance.

Its surprisingly cheap, well maybe not cheap but not near as expensive as you would think. There are of course several options.

But generally you are SOL without anything. Racing happens.

I HAVE A FRIEND THAT SUED TRACK AND GOT SOME MONEY AFTER HE WRECK ALONE. DON'T KNOW THE DETAILS.

I lose more races than I win because of other people.. I've lifted and been hard on the brakes cause some dumb-a@# went in my lane.. of course it was a back wood track and no-one saw it happen. But I don't care about winning the race at the cost of my car, its just not wroth it. My car has been in the family as long as I've been around, and I' m just not willing to wreack it or have someone wreack it for me for 50 bucks. So I drive more defensive than anything. If it looks like crap, smells like crap, its crap...

AO Underwriters. Go to AO underwriters.com. They cover you on and off track. It was going to cost $800 a year to cover a low 8 sec. $30000 racecar on and off the racetrack, in transit, sitting in a Hotel parking lot in trailer, or in the garage at home. I did'nt get it and of course motor blew and stuffed me into the wall at 160mph. Glad I was the faster car because I was in the left and stuffed it into the right wall. Nothing I could do. The 7-8 rods blew through the side of the block, ripped the starter out of the Ultrabell. The starter hit the steering shaft and broke it at the flex-joint. At that point I was just along for the ride. Allways remember when you sign the waivers when you get to the racetrack you are releasing liability to other drivers and the racetrack. And realize you are coming to the racetrack with a big$$$ toy and could go home with a wrecked pile of junk.

When you go to the track and sign the waiver to be able to race you are releasing the TRACK from liability. Not other individuals. Maybe I am wrong. You can bet if another Guy wrecks you that you still might have a civil case to sue him for damages if you choose.

I had racing insurance on the Demon for a couple years and it covered you from the burnout box until you exited the track and that is it! For $25,000 coverage it was $850 per year.

We have had 2 instances where our cars were hit, both times in the pits and both times by people towing big trailers, 1st time,our Cuda got hit about 8 years ago ,trailer caught the left front fender, damaged the bumper and l/f fender pretty bad,drug the car about 4 feet sideways,We had just Painted it about 3 months prior, so at least the paint was easy to match,and I still had leftover paint, guy felt bad, offered to pay, but We was so irate that we refused, convinced him to leave before it got ugly. 2nd time ,my sons girlfriend's Challenger got hit by a trailer while in its pit spot at a Chrysler Classic by same thing, a person towing a trailer, crunched left rear 1/4 panel, and the guy did pay what the estimate was but He didn't have to tow a race race car to several body shops for estimates or race a wrecked car for several months till we could fix it. Then at the Good Guys race at National Trail a month ago, once again parked in Pit spot, and a guy in a motor home with a 28' ft enclosed comes in from the wrong way, cuts through the pits and then makes a wide swing to pull into a spot about 3 spots down from us and the rear of the trailer missed our car by the thickness of a notebook paper, He couldn't hear our screaming,and was totally unaware. I went down and told what he did, and his reply was He was watching, and He had plenty of room. He couldn't understand why I was worked up when nothing got hurt? LOL I just shook my head and walked away. Big Trailers and Amateur drivers scare me more than racetracks!

Take it from me, you will be SOL, I bought a turnkey car last July and was havin the time of my life then last December at the Snowbird race some piece of #$#$ by the name of John Eyer jumps on his brakes at the finish line, my win light comes on then smash! into my quarter panel, I saw him an instant before he hit me , next thing I know Im on the roof at 140mph, I walked away but all he said was "sorry" then he got in his pusher motorhome with his stacker trailer and motored back to Cocoa, I contacted him to see if he would give me any help at all, he said "sorry" I say Karmas a B#tch. Sorry for venting but my car is still all tore up, probably about 20K to make it right. I will have on-track insurance next time or I'll stay home...
