and thinking about going to a 9" from a 8" and dropping from 5700 rpm stall to 5000 rpm stall, this will be custom made for my combo, my question is has anyone gone from a 8" to a 9" and what were your result's even if you changed stall speed, and what is the real advantage of one size over the other.

I had a 9" in that went to 4600 when I ran my best. I now have an 8" in that goes to 5600 and I'm running a couple .1's slower.
I need to get my 9" redone

It was for Bill. Bill Hart.........your converter may be a little on the loose side but, I'll bet, not much. It might need something done to it, to get a little more top-end efficiency though.

Coan doesn't seem to be a popular choice around this forum, but they have excellent customer service. And IMO the best converters I have ever run..They will answer plenty of questions about a converter even if you didn't buy it. The keep a history of every converter, and can pull up the info on a custom converter like it was called in yesterday on a converter built back 6 years ago..They did so im My case. My cars in back to back test always pickup/ MPH better than other popular converters recommended on here

Bill, have you called any of the major converter companies and asked them to spec a converter for "your car and combo"? You can also call them and let them know your combo and converter you have now and maybe they can rework that one to match your combo and make it better
Russ
Good advice...pick a quality name and trust them Personally I prefer ATI

what I have done is talked to a guy here fairly local about building me a new one, he told me that a 9" is way cheeper than a 8" because of the internal componet's cost and also the availability of a useable 8" core, and he guaranteed that he can make a 9" work just as well as or better than a 8" at almost twice the initial cost, from what I have been told by him and a number of his customer's is that he hasn't had a dissatisfied customer yet, and will strive to maintain that reputation, he does not advertise and has built a customer base by word of mouth alone.
