Motor will be a 451" low-deck BB. Solid flat tappet cam @ 252*. 10.5:1. Stealth heads.
How much of a difference would there be between 1-3/4" primary tube and 1-7.8" primary tube headers??

That's not a 2" header combination.
Assuming the two headers are otherwise the same (i.e. no design flaws on one that aren't on the other), the 1 7/8" are probably worth 10+ HP over the 1 3/4".

Maybe not, but what if he adds upgrades later on? Ported heads? More cam? More intake? I spent $800 for 1 3/4" TTIs for the first iteration of my motor. I now have a bigger solid and ported MCH Eddys. Now, I've got to spend another $900 to get the optimal headers for my combo. 2" headers give you room to grow.

Maybe not, but... 2" headers give you room to grow.
Better to plan ahead better and buy the right headers the first time.
FWIW, I've gone 12.2s w/ 1.75" headers, 11.0s w/ 1.875" and 10.5s w/2.0". I'm pretty sure my header sizing was a good fit for the respective combination, so I don't see the need for a 2" header in what's been described above.

It is primarily a street car that sees 4 or 5 trips to the strip a year. I'm leaning towards a new set of 1-3/4" for a few of reasons. A) going to be using a Proform bodied 750 Holley (825 cfm) to keep it nice & tunable for street use (and I already have it), 1-3/4" headers may lend themselves to this carb (???). B) cost. Summits headers have a 5/16" flange, and are easy on the wallet. C) Rons Red 63 goes faster than my goal with less motor, and uses 1-3/4" headers.
I know the larger tubes will make more power up top, but truth is, I sorta don't want the car to go faster than 11.50, because I don't want to have to put a roll-bar in it. (although I'm no different than all you guys, too fast wouldn't be the worst problem I've had!)

for the price, I don't think the hedman elites can be beat. IIRC the tubes don't go under the steering like other cheapies, or am I mistaken about that ron?
I just wish they made a small block version.

The headers on the 383 in the car right now are older headmans, and the tube bend shape looks just like Rons picture on the driver side. The pictures shown of the Summit headers also look to be this exact same bend sequence, which does stay above the steering, and fits very nicely.
The reason I'm ditching the ones on the car currently is that the flanges, which are 3 seperate pieces, are warped at the center ports. They're doing okay right now with Remflex gaskets, but they have been a problem in the past, and its time to jettison them.

I dont think any of the cheap big block headers go under under the steering, thank goodness, the small block ones are a drag

Yes you are right as I use the Hedman Elite 1-3/4 tube headers. 11.50's so far but I think it has at least 11.40's in it. My headers came with the car as my buddy who sold me the car had bought them and never installed them so they were brand new and never installed when I got the car. They dont seem to hurt my mild combo and and they might even help the low end as I sixty better then my sons Dart does and he has 2" tubes on his. You should be fine for a mild street/strip car with the 1-3/4 tubes. Ron

Sounds just like mine except I have mildly ported 516's with 2.08/1.74 valves, so I will not have enough high end to even need 1 7/8" until I can afford some decent heads!
My combo is a low-buck effort so I am using 1 3/4" Hedman B-body headers in my '72 Dart (in fact I bought the set that was used in the tech pics on BBD). Today I found that #6 tube needs another small dimple to clear the Lakewood housing - the previous owner's car didn't have one
If I ever get it in the car I will let you know how it works! Guess the big question is, do you want to buy headers twice...
