Hi,

I am posting this for a friend who is racing traditional Ford flatheads in his shoebox (see pic).

He just had a stroker built for blown application. Now he is is looking around for what blower to buy.

There seem several options for brandnew kits: Scot, Weiand and Magansun

As far as I understand all these are just different varieties of Roots blowers.

Besides appearance and price(!) is there any important difference between these? Anyone have some real world info or experience here?

Best regards
Flo

any input greatly appreciated

these guys seem the ones to buy from:
http://www.flatheads-forever.com
they offer the three kits mentioned, no explanations about them though.

-car will have to run on 100 octane pump gas
-carbed (my friend is pretty strict style-wise)
-HP.. as much as possible with a streetable flatty... maybe 200? 250?!?

will try to get more pics of the car. :-)

Thanks and greets
flo

Scot, Weiand and Magansun

Not that similar.

S.C.o.T. (Supercharger Company of Turin) was a prominent manufacturer 50 years ago, and they're collector's items now and very $$$.

Weiand makes a good GMC Roots variant.

Magnuson makes (actually modifies) the Eaton end-feed Roots variant.

How much boost does he need?
How big is the engine?
What manifold does he have?
Does he already have a front accessory drive (V-belt, serpentine belt, Gilmer belt, chain)?

Hi,
this is what I can tell up to now:

currently he has:
8ba with isky max1 cam, offenhauser dualintake, 2x48 strombergs, vertex magneto, edelbrock heads, fenton headers...

the new short block is built like this:
SCAT 2” pin H beam
4” Merc. Crank (Scat)
Camshaft .270 duration, .360 lift @112 center
Ross Racing Pistons
Steel Main Caps

I will ask him for more specs!

the Scots are actually made again these days with some reengineering and modern materials.

More than twice the money of a Weiand though. If the only difference is the extra cool look that is hard to justify...

Randolf started off asking there and got no technical answers!
That is why I said I am going to post here as there are usually some people around who know a little more background...

There was a series of articles about building flatheads in Hot Rod magazine maybe 10-15 years ago. They had a blown flathead making +/- 450HP all day long on a dyno. It was a larger shop, but for the life of me I can't recall the name. I believe it was a Weiand blower used but don't quote me on that either. S/F....Ken M

Are you lock into a GMC Roots blower or are you open to a centrifugal with a blow thru hook up to both carbs?

Send your friend to www.fordbarn.com. That site is full of flathead guys----several with serious blower engines. They can help him with "real world" experience.

as far as I can say he would prefer a traditional style setup with the blower on top of the intake and suck through carbs. But the option of closing the hood may amke a blow through interesting!

I am waiting for him to answer some of the questions asked here.

Thanks for the answers so far
