What is the purpose of these-told that if you use after market caps and line bore and hone you have to use them! But line boring just brings things back to zero-right! Am I missing something here.

The block gets bored along with the caps. So the crank will be closer to the cam after it gets bored.

Technically, if the machine shop does its job competently and compensating-thickness main journal bearings are manufactured/available, an undersized timing chain should not be required.

That said, sometimes an undersized timing chain is the appropriate "fix."

Check out this link and scroll down to the "Line Boring / Honing" section:

I had a new set of caps installed on a 440 block and the regular Rollmaster chain would BARELY go on it was so tight!

I want my fair share
