Instead of using E-brake cables on a street/strip car could a Hurst Line Lock kit be used as a emergency brake system on the street?

The car is a 70 Charger RT 4speed.

I'm sure that you could if you used it with a toggle switch as opposed to a momentary button.

It would be a constanat drain on the battery and might cause the line lock to go bad quicker than normal due to long periods of apply. Never tried it and don't know of anyone who has so I have no idea how it would hold up or how quick it could drain a battery.

if i were to use something like that, i would use a "mico" brake. truck places use[or used to] those and they are like a mechanical line lock which use a cable to activate a oneway valve.

They make manual units, sorta cheap JC W. sold them, not sure if they still do, meant for a parking brake assist...but they can be used a a elcheapo line lock...it worked for me whan I was like 12 or so. Simple pump the brake, push the manual button down and until you pulled it up you were locked.

If a emergency happens be glad there is a all mechanical foot brake to hault the car. Bypassing possible fluid leaks.

You can use a hydraulic micro-lock as a parking brake, but not as an emergency brake.

Line lock solenoids are not rated for continuous duty. Eventually the solenoid could fry and release the brakes.

It not only can, it will. Between a friend I've known since 68 and I, "we" have used up 4 LineLocs over the years. The last unit I put in my old FJ40 Landcruiser was a micro-loc.

However, NONE of these units are meant for anything more than an additional parking device or hill-holder.

Yup. It will fry and or kill the battery. Don't use it like that

I cant get the factory E-brake cables to work with the aftermarket rear disc brake kit that I have.

What is a good alternative that I good use for an E-Brake/Parking Brake?

Are you saying the new disc brake kit you installed didn't come with the emergency brake set up or that you just haven't figured out how to get them hooked up yet?

sounds like you want to use it as a PARKING BRAKE , EMERGENCY brake means something completely different , and no you can not use one as an emergency brake .

Thanks John and yep,I got the two mixed up!

My rear brake kit did not come with E-brake cables and the calipers I am using do not want to work with my factory cables.

I do not want to leave my car parked without a parking brake and have it somehow "slip" out of gear and go rolling off somewhere but I sure would like something to use an emergency brake also.

Anybody have suggestions on what to use?

Buy the correct cables. It will be cheaper then trying to cobble something together.

My Cj has a Line Lock hooked up to a dash-mounted toggle switch, and I use it when off-roading to hold the Jeep in place on a hill if I have to start it in an off-camber situation, or if I stall going up/cresting a hill, that kinda thing...but only for 5-10 seconds at a time. Set it, step on the clutch, start the engine, let off the clutch slowly, and as it starts to grab, flip the Line Lock off.
