70AARcuda master Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 9,826 las vegas	one of the most complete kits is from transtar kits from northerautoparts.com special tools...you need snap ring pliers.. a tool to compress the front clutch pac to remove and replace seals....can be home made or bought. need to be able to drive out old bushing from front drum..pump..tail shaft.... bushing drivers kit is expensive..but you could take those 3 parts and bushing to a trans shop and they could knock them in and out in a couple of minutes... the 727 is an easy trans to rebuild...there are a couple of good books available and a video is available. Not to many special tools are required. Most I made my self out of scrap laying around. First thing I would recomend buying is the 727 Handbook by Carl Munroe. Where are you in Ohio? If your close enough you could even bring it by my house and I can teach you how to do one.

Waveraider master Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 2,526 Indianapolis	I did mine myself (my first rebuild) and it was a piece of cake. IMO, it was harder to pull/install the tranny than to rebuild. I checked out a book from of the Indpls Public Library, which may be the same one referred to earlier. I believe that I have less than 250 bucks invested in the rebuild, including the Trans-go shift kit. Good luck.

Actually, I would say the 833 is the easiest stick trans Ive ever done...compared to an M20, M21, M22, and T5. FMX is overly complex but still pretty easy... AOD's are easy... Most Autos I've ever done weren't to difficult... BTW Just saw that Bill posted... I gotta take the easy shots... A long table so you can seperate out the assy's & keep everything in order & take notes on which sides of things go to which side (like spacers/thrust washers etc) also put a dial indicator on the front pump shaft & measure the end play before you begin. live every 24 hour block of time like it's your last day on earth
