There seems to be a lot of post on e-body door handles but I didn't find one with the info I wanted.

I just got a monthly newsletter from Herb's parts. The website lists their outer door handles for $158 a pair. That seems really cheap. I thought they were more than that. Is there more than one company making these? Is there one brand/company to stay away from.

I'm not an expert but here's what I know about E body door handles. Challengers use one with a slightly convex (dished in) surface. Cudas use one with a concave (dished out) surface (different part numbers). Some of the cheaper repops split the difference and went with a straight face. They work just fine but if you are building a 100 pt car for the Nats you probably don't want them. $158 bucks a pair is about right for the generic ones. I don't know if anyone is doing them correctly yet and NOS units are in the Unobtaineum price range.

72-74 used the "generic" ones. They changed them so the Cuda's and Challenger's could use the same part.

I'm just wondering about the finish and its longevity. I don't want something that is going to tarnish in a year or two.

I do not know about repo's or if it is possible for you to disassemble your handles but if you can I sent my '71 b-body handles to Advanced Plating in Nashville, TN. and I am very happy with the way they turned out.Their number is 800-588-6686. Good Luck

Jules (The Wiperman) was restoring them but quit when the repop correct curved ones came out. I bought a correct set from Josh's which is no longer in business. Dale's Cuda Shop should have them and they run about 150 or so. I have not installed mine yet so can't tell you how long they will hold up.

I don't think rebuilding mine is going to be an option. As with a lot of Challengers, the door hinges were shot. THe handles were used to lift up on the doors to get them to close. The accual handle part doesn't line up with the lock cylinder section any more.

Thanks for the input.

I still have lots of spare parts and I am willing to do yours but I will be up front with pricing.
I charge $399 US to restore a pair.
Triple chrome plating and correct brush finish, correct plating and painted coves.
Your challenger handles should end with part numbers 886 and 887 for 70-71.
If interested , please email me.
Jules

You can go to any Chrysler dealership and order a pair they are in the Mopar performance catalog but on the other hand Jules will be alot nicer. I had a freind that order them from Chrysler and was diappointed with the finish.

I bought a set of reproduction ones off a guy that was selling them on Ebay for $99 for the SET. For that price it was a no-brainer. I returned the first set because one had a sticky mechanism and the other had a flaw in the chrome, but he replaced them without a problem. Here is the link to the auction he is currently running:

He has a buy it now of $149 but I e-mailed him and he took $99 which which is his reserve.

I took a look at the Mopar Performance ones at the Herb's Auto booth at the Nat's yesterday. I passed on them. They are convex just like a Cuda handles. I saw a 70 Challenger with them and it looked like crap. I'm going to get the concave ones.

Accually I'm going to go take a look at my origonals here in a few minutes. I can't believe they looked like the MP ones but I'll see.

I know that Mopar offered a replacement one for Barracudas and Challengers with the same part number. It has been discussed here before but for some reason I am thinking those were "flat" kind of cross between the 2 but not sure.

Anyway, here is a close-up of the one's I got when Josh was in business. The chrome trim around the handles on mine look really nice. This is not a great photos and you may see some finger prints on the chrome but if you look at the right side of the handle towards the bottom, you can see the slight curve out. I did test fit one on one of my doors when I first got it and it fit nicely.

Yep...the ones that I saw were Cuda handles. Herb's said that thouse were the only ones that Mopar offered...and the only ones he brought along to the show.

I looked all over and can't find my origonals right now. I'll keep looking.

You should clarify with Dale's but I'm pretty sure these are the ones with the correct curve like I bought.
