I have a '67 340 that I bought a few years ago, complete and with all machine work done (but not assembled). I pulled it out of the bag this morning to get the casting numbers off it and found a 2.5-3" crack in #6 cylinder. If not for an ever-so-slight rust mark at the crack, I'm sure I never would have caught it. With all machine work done (align bore, bored/honed to 4.070,cam bearings installed, etc), I'm thinking a sleeve is the only way to fix it without investing a bunch more dough. Opinions?
In order to know what you want, you'll probably have to find out what you don't want.

Ah yes- a concern of mine also. How do they seal? And what about distortion in the two neighboring cylinders? Just clean up with a hone? Thanks for the replies- I'm feeling better already.

Sorry, should have been more clear about that. I keep track of my engines/blocks by casting dates. By the way, this one is 6-19-67; am I correct in assuming that's pretty early? And yes, it's in the back of the truck right now on it's way to the shop for a sleeve. Wish me luck!
