Well after talking to a friend to day at work and telling him about my dart laying down at 6100 rpm racing the 1/4 mile last weekend. He brought up a good point that my valve springs might be tired. I do not remember what the part number is. But i am running the biggest single spring that mopar performance made and they have been on my car for over 5 years with no telling how man 1/4 mile passes.my car used to pull to 6500 or more easy if i wanted to rev it that high. but last weekend my car did not want to rev past 6100 rpm. so i am think my valve springs are shot. I am using a comp 305-525 hydraulic cam with crane roller 1.6 rockers.which if i did my math right came up to 565 lift.

OK now my problem. I bought a set of 906 heads that somebody left at a machine shop and never picked up over 5 years ago so i got a great deal on them at the time. they had new valve guides etc replaced. but they did not cut the center of the valve guide down so you can run a duel spring set up. so i am stuck running a single spring. Which i am having a hard time finding single stock ride height springs that will work with my heads. SO do you think a set of take off springs off a edelbrock 440 heads would work?? or can somebody recommend a spring that will work with my cam?

Thanks Mopar65

I have used a inner valve spring out of a set of small block dual springs set that worked fine on a 906 without the inner lip machined off, sorry that I can't tell you the part number as that was a lot of years ago. Pull one of your springs off and measure the inner hieght and inner diameter of your current springs and call one of the better cam comapny and ask them for a inner spring that will fit in your heads and add 60 to 75 lbs added pressure at max lift, which will be probally 20 to 30 lbs on the seats If you have a new set of the Eddy valve springs you can also see what the pressures are on your heads, probally a different installed hieght on the two different heads so you will need a valve spring checker to see. BTW, check the pressures on the old spring while your at it If you can get 150 to 180 lbs on the seats and 325 to 400 lbs open pressure on your cam now I would do that in a heartbeat

Hughes engines # 1106 are single spring with dampers. Should work fine with that cam.

Yes
A take off Eddy spring will work great. But...there is always a but hu? The retainers and locks probably wont work if using stock valves. The eddy's and most aftermarkets (excluding Hemi's) have 11/32 valve stems, and stock Mopar is 3/8's. Just make sure you get the correct retainers and locks..I recommend 10 deg stuff, its cheap enough etc. And a worth while upgrade.

thanks for the help guys i will look into the Hughes springs. I finally found my old mopar performance book. It looks like i am using the mopar spring p/n P5249848 with a max lift of .540. So it looks like i was off on my spring choice back then.I used to own a set of the edelbrock 440 heads so i knew about the different size of the valves.but thanks for the info. Mopar65

I bought an inner spring seat cutter and a valve guide cutter from powerhouse. They weren't very expensive. Dave
