Anyone besides me refuse to race during the summer months? I can deal with the heat if I am working, but it takes the fun out of racing to me. Sitting in the staging lanes wearing a fire suit is no fun at all, not to mention my car slows 2 to 3 tenths in the heat. We went to the ORSCA race this weekend and it made me glad I wasn't having to deal with having a car there.
This time of year it's much more fun to jump in the car after work and go riding around or just to go to the store. Think I'll wait until about October to go back to the track. CHIP

I'm with you.Although I haven't had my car at the track in a long while,I'm pretty much over any racing in the summer heat.

dont have much of a choice here..... cant race in the snow.

But I dont understand when I go racing with my family in San Antonio why they dont have their points races over the winter cooler months.

154* track temp here a few weeks ago
When the thermo goes over 90* I try to stay put, heat index easily over 100 due to the humidity. Cars way down on power with those temps and tracks like running on crisco...

same crap goes on here. I sit out most of the summer due to heat/rain. Bradenton is closed all of July and most of Aug then when the nicer air starts to roll in they have NO bracket racing all of Oct most of Nov! Just stupid

Racing in the Fall is the best , the Springs not bad, but racing in the Summer is my least favorite. Especially in a car with a black vinyl roof and black interior. I moved down a class so I don`t have to wear a fire jacket anymore, in the summer I wear shorts and pull on a pair of sweatpants just before I get in the car for a run and take them right off as soon as I get out. Racing in the Summer can be draining but when you race for Points like I do you learn to deal with it. I also have a small fan in the car that helps a little.

If we don't race during the summer months, we don't race at all. Ice is relatively sllippery even with the power we produce.

I agree with you. I raced hard core for 7 years...every week regardless of weather. The past two seasons I got past the "have to go" feeling and only go out when the weather is comfortable. It is a lot more fun for me this way.

I don't mind the heat so much.........it's using up my engine,
knowing it's not going to go "Best Ever" that day.

E.T. chasers, please raise your hand.

The last three races I was half-heartedly going to attempt were rained out and yes the heat is a killer...Immokalee is down to 1-quick32 race a month and PBIR is trying a .90 event on August 22 which I plan on attending....other than that it will most likely be the Atlanta Divisional in September when thing get wound up for me...

Yeah... tough at bracket events where there are constant interruptions and you are all suited up. $220 chassis insp...$250 physical...being able to run in the 9's....ah well...take your clothes off, pull down that net and run 10.01....priceless at 90F!

Like most of the guys up north here we really dont have
that long of a season so you do what ya got to if you
want to race.... but do things to help make it better
like a small fan in the car. I very seldom run in the
fall... thats when I go hunting. This year has been
a cool summer but has rained more(up here anyways)

If we did not race in the summer we would need plows mounted on our cars, see attached picture

Around here it is summer at the end of May all the way to the middle or end of September so if ya don't like the heat you miss a lot of racing. Summer months around here is when Championships are won because the fair weather racers stay home and the hardcore guys keep going. We tend to race alot more at night around here. To answer the question no I don't like it but accept it as a necessity.

Thats the beauty of being in the south. You can race all year with the exception of part of November and part of December and it is plenty warm enough most of the time. Thats what makes the mid 90s and massive humidity so hard to want to race in. Nevermind the really hot days.

It isn't much fun to pull into the pits when the temperture is 114, like it was last Saturday. Track temps get to over 140 and the corrected density altitue is over 5000 feet at our track that is 1250 feet above sea level. We race at night during the summer, but it is still HOT. Our car counts go down because a lot of racers that are way down in the points race give up when the weather is too hot. We have quite a few racers that won't show up in the summer because they can come out when the weather is better. I won't complain because I just want to race. We are very fortunate because we can race 12 months a year. I guess you have to take the good with the bad.

Last three times out were almost unbearable for me. I actually felt light headed in the car. 100 degrees plus with heat indexes between 105 and 110. I am taking some time to work on the trailer and sit out a few weeks. I will pick and choose thru August hoping to catch a 90 degree day and then it will be on in September.

I NEVER race in the summer especially because I`m an et chaser and it ain`t happening in the heat that`s for sure. I understand points chasers and class racers need to be there all year long if they want to be competitive but other than that, it crazy....hell, I barely go to watch in the summer.

It can get real hot and humid here in Md and at 53 years old I cant take the heat like I used to. I refuse to race in July and August as I can not enjoy it when I sweat so bad you feel like you want to pass out. Course my car is just a street car I race when I want and that I am glad of. I like to have fun when I go to the track and since I usually drive my car to the track I dont have no AC to sit in at the track. Ron

I wish I could have been there this past weekend. When we raced a Carolina about 1 mo ago we pulled my buddys powerglide out of his car and I put in a new gear set and changed drums on the pavement inbetwwen 1st and 2nd round when it was 95deg. and 90% humidity. and would do it again in a heart beat I don't care if its 10deg or 100deg. being at the track is better than anything else I could be doing. My car is black with 2% tinted windows and I wear a black /5 suit and I would be in any time I can during the summer nothing better.

One day I will have something cool here.

I have to agree there's nothing worse than sitting in the heat in the lane strapped in helmet /5 pants & jacket helmet & gloves while you wait. I guess it's the curse of having fair weather year around is it's hot and humid during the summer. We have nt been out since the 1st of june when it turned off really hot. Looking forward to sept and oct here in NC cool temps low humidity.

man you guys must be gettin old!

Truthfully i would rather race when its not as hot, but i have no problem jumpin in the car when its 90+ degrees ot. Like said above a hot day at the track is still better than workin or something. The summertime is really the only time to race around here so im going to every chance I get

But then again im a young whipper snapper...

You dont mind because you live in the North. I race with baggy clothes or suit depending on how fast i decide to go and dont see any difference in the five gallons of sweat.I need windshield wipers for my eyes to keep the water from pouring down out of the helmet.

I chased points for 3 years sweating my off, after finally winning we take off July and august, just too hot and thick here on the NC coast to fool with it anymore, at best we watch from the car trailer with the genset humming away and 2 ac units blasting, when the end of september rolls around we will get back into it

A couple of things I used to do to beat the heat would be wear a pair of cross-training shorts (built much like a swim suit) and a pair of shoes 1/2 size too big, loosely-tied. I could kick off my shoes and put on my racing pants just before the cars pulled out of the lanes, then step into the shoes without untying them. I kept a couple of washcloths in a cooler of icewater and wiped my face and neck down after a run, put one around your neck when heading back to the lanes. A folding sunscreen inside your windshield helps, as well as draping your jacket over your steering wheel. Keep both doors open if you don't have roll-down windows.

what a bunch of wusssses been racing in the heat forever. as long as it's in the evening I don't care. the mid day races get a little warm.

You dont mind because you live in the North. I race with baggy clothes or suit depending on how fast i decide to go and dont see any difference in the five gallons of sweat.I need windshield wipers for my eyes to keep the water from pouring down out of the helmet.

try a cool collar around your neck. you can get them form walmart I think. it will keep your eyes from sweating. I shouldn't tell you that I may have to race you one day

IN what section of the store would you find a cool collar?? I use a big bandana with ice in it around my neck, it works good but sometime it sure gets cold. I would love to have something that was made for that purpose.

look over in the sports section, they have a jell in them. you throw them in the cooler for a few minutes and they stay cool for a while. they really work.

For those that live in/near Phoenix, all of you know how bad racing during the summer absolutely sucks...even at night

I hate racing in the summer!Car runs bad,It's hot and you are sitting in your car with the windows rolled up with a helmet and jacket on.

I could do without racing in July and August all together.

I've got about half my new A/C done for the Challenger...then I'm putting a catch can on the evaporator tube...I'm totally serious here....it was 111 last week and like ron says...thats like 150+ in the car....heck with that, I'll sit in the staging lanes with the A/C on! (And I drive the car to the track).

Did I mention my 57 year old Mom races with me with her Duster? Never misses a race, no matter how HOT it is. I guess she is more hardcore than most of you guys.
